This week we wrote letters to sponsors, built new classrooms, and harvested huge fish!
VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Writing to Sponsors
At VOH Bwiza, our children are always excited when it’s time to write letters to their sponsors. The older children update their sponsors on how school is going and any interesting things they’ve been up to. The children who are too young to write draw pictures instead. Both groups use these letters to thank their sponsors for their ongoing love and support. We believe these are important moments for the children and their sponsors because letters keep them connected.
VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Meet Chileshe
Chileshe lives in one of our children’s homes at VOH Chongwe. She came to VOH back in 2012 when she was only seven years old. When she arrived at VOH, she had never been inside a classroom. She began in Preschool when she arrived, and today she is in grade 8 and excelling academically! At our VOH school, she can access the computer lab, library, clubs, and all of the other programs offered. She also receives regular health checkups at our clinic. If she is not feeling well, there is always someone available to help her! We believe that Chileshe will continue to do well academically, and we know she has a bright future ahead of her! Her dream is to become a doctor and save lives. She is so happy to be at VOH, and she loves being a part of the VOH family.

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: New Two-Story Highschool Under Construction!
VOH Kitwe’s two-storey high school building project is progressing well. This week we would like to share how the construction work is going. A strong foundation has been laid, which took quite some time to prepare. We are happy to share that the ground floor, which is the slab, is successfully done, and now the building of the walls has commenced. The children and staff are excited to showcase where the construction has reached. When complete, this project will be a two-story building with ten classrooms and four offices. The children and staff are so excited for the building to be finished!
VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Meet Vera
Meet Vera, a very good-natured and ambitious young girl who loves to be in school. When Vera first came to VOH Luongo, she couldn’t read or write, but now she can, thanks to the VOH school and her teachers! Vera is currently in grade 4 and wants to be a nurse when she finishes school. Recently Vera was feeling ill, and her mother was so thankful that we took care of her at the VOH Kitwe clinic. It didn’t take long for her to feel like her usual self again! Vera’s mother is very thankful to see her daughter feeling well and smiling again. We are grateful to our friends and donors for making stories like Vera’s possible!
VOH Malawi Update: New Classroom Complete!
This week at VOH Malawi, we are delighted that another new classroom block is complete! This one is for our grade 5 and 6 students. We are delighted with the finished product and love seeing our students enjoy their new classrooms! The doors and all of the frames are steel, making the building very durable. The grade 5 students are settled in and happy to be in the new building. The second classroom is being used temporarily as a library until the current grade five students graduate to grade 6 later this year. We want to thank everyone who made this dream come true through your prayers and financial support!
VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: Letters for Sponsors
This week at VOH Maramvya, the children wrote letters to their sponsors. The children always look forward to writing to their sponsors. Most of them wrote about how their holidays were. Children love to write these letters because it allows them to tell stories to their sponsors. Our preschool children cannot write yet, but they like to draw something special for their sponsors. We want to thank every sponsor; you make a big difference in the children’s lives!
VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Fish Pond Success!
We are happy to share that our fish ponds at VOH Mongu are a success! Our farm staff has been incredible in caring for our fish, and their hard work paid off; the fish are huge! We are so glad that our fish farm has grown from its small beginnings and that we can reap such a harvest. The staff is working hard to ensure this project continues to run smoothly. We are also training older students and other staff members so that together we can participate in this and other sustainability projects to help support our work at VOH Mongu.
VOH Zimbabwe Update: Farewell, Derrick!
This week at VOH Zimbabwe, it’s time to say goodbye to Derrick. Derrick has lived in one of our children’s homes for the past 18 years. He came to us in a bad state, but we are so glad to see the amazing young man that he has become. This week, with help from Social Services, we reunited Derrick with his grandmother! We are so happy to know he is well-prepared to start his post-graduation life and that he has a grandmother to love and support him. We hosted a farewell dinner for Derrick, and Bishop Zowa gifted him with a Bible. We would like to wish Derrick all the best in the coming years. We know he will positively impact the community and the world at large!
