Moms and Tots Program: this week at VOH Africa

Welcome to our weekly news roundup! Here we share stories from each of our Villages about our Programs, celebrations, children, and staff. If you’d like to receive these updates via email, please subscribe to our newsletter.

Mongu: Moms and Tots Program

Here at VOH Mongu, our mothers, aunties, and Occupational Therapist Megan are passionate about getting children ready for school from an early age and giving them the tools and skills necessary to succeed once they begin school.

This is why each week we hold a Moms and Tots program, where all of our little ones at the homes gather with their mothers and aunties. They start off with one of the mothers leading in praise songs and telling a Bible story. After that, the mothers and aunties work to interact with the children on different activities and games that will help develop a child’s fine and gross motor skills.

This exercise also helps teach the children to listen to directions and how to work together with their peers. We love seeing these kids progress each week with the help of their mothers and aunties!

Burundi: Receiving Letters from Sponsors!

The sponsors of our children at VOH Burundi are very special to them! Through exchanged letters and pictures they have become friends even if they have never met each other face to face. Our children are always very excited to hear from their sponsors and are thankful that a stranger so far away would decide to support them!

We can see and feel this excitement when we are translating and reading the letters from their sponsors to them.

Chongwe: Highschool Team Visits

Last week VOH Chongwe enjoyed a visit from a team of High School students from Pacific Academy in Surrey, BC. The Team was in Zambia and came to VOH Chongwe to spend the day with us! We had a wonderful time as they held Vocation Bible School and played games with our children!

Kitwe: Medical Donation!

Our clinic at VOH Kitwe was privileged to receive a donation of medical items from Alliance Pharmaceuticals, a local Pharmaceutical company here in Kitwe. This donation is in line with the national policy of encouraging local businesses to give back to the communities where their businesses are located. This local donor said they chose to contribute to us because of the good and successful work going on at VOH!

We are grateful for this donation of supplies, which will help us with the ongoing costs of providing good medical care for our children, staff, and their families.

Malawi: Midterm Assessment

This week at VOH Malawi the students are participating in mid-term assessments. Even the preschoolers get a chance to practice taking tests that for them include identifying shapes, tracing shapes and letters, and colouring inside the lines. This gives the teachers a good indication of how their students’ learning is progressing and where more attention is needed.

Mwanza: Team from Ontario Visits

This week VOH Mwanza welcomed a team of nine people from Faith Well and Church in Welland, Ontario. The team is focusing on children’s ministry and helping to clean up and prepare our new site at VOH Bulale, which is set to launch its pre-school and nutrition program mid-April.

We are thankful for this team who have jumped right in and have been having a wonderful time so far with all the kids and staff.

Zimbabwe: Well Done, Edmore!

Meet Edmore, one of our children who recently received his national exam results at VOH Zimbabwe. His score was high enough that he will be able to pursue his passion and work towards a degree in accounting.

Edmore came to Village of Hope in grade one and to see him finish his high school with flying colours is a joy! VOH has managed to bring hope and a life to this young man and many other children. It’s great to see them smile and feel good about themselves.

We continue to thank those that are making a difference in children’s lives through their contributions!
