VOH Africa: Leadership Meetings

This past week, Villages of Hope Africa held leadership meetings in Burundi. Every one to two years we gather the Director and one other staff member from each Village together and hold workshops on areas that will better equip them for the important and at times challenging ministry of VOH.

The meetings focus on topics related to providing the best possible holistic care to our children. They are also a time of spiritual refreshment and personal interactions. The friendships and support that we receive from one another are a huge blessing and asset as we all return to our various countries and villages.

This year, we invited John Caplin (leadership coach and consultant) to lead the workshops and we all benefitted from the training that he provided.

Burundi: Hosting VOH Leadership

VOH Burundi was honoured to host this year’s VOH Africa leadership meetings. This is the first time we have hosted this special event and it was wonderful to show the other Village Directors and Administrators the ministry at both Bwiza and Maramvya.

The children at Bwiza sang, shared poems, and performed a traditional dance for our guests. Our visitors also prayed for our youth who are about to write their exams for the 2nd term.

At our Maramvya location, the visitors had the opportunity to be some of the first to see our first group of preschool children in class!

Chongwe: Celebrating Youth Day!

On March 12th VOH Chongwe was happy to take part in National Youth Day activities. Each year on National Youth Day, Zambians are encouraged to remember the contribution of the nation’s youth.

Zambia has a very large youth population, and many of them live in dire poverty. Thus, there is also a focus on helping youth overcome economic and social obstacles during Youth Day.

The theme this year is creating opportunities for youth to gain information about Communication Technology. Here at VOH Chongwe we value our youth and are committed to equipping them, giving them hope for the future!

Kitwe: Height and Weight Day!

It is time once again for our VOH Kitwe children to have their height and weight measurements recorded. Checking every child on a regular basis is the most practical method available for assessing their growth.

Today the grade one class was excited to go to the clinic for the exercise. Their teacher went along with them to make sure that they were relaxed and enjoyed the process. The clinic staff took the measurements while the teacher recorded the information into each child’s clinic file.

Malawi: Videographer

VOH Malawi was so glad to have Jordan Huston visit us once again. Jordan is a gifted videographer who has done a great job capturing the life-giving work happening here in Malawi. We are happy to share a few of the pictures that Jordan took as well as a few behind the scene photos! It was so great to have him with us for the past two weeks.

Mongu: Gifts from Sponsors!

Many children at the VOH Mongu School were excited to receive gifts from their sponsors in the last few weeks. The presents were full of new school clothes, soft toys, school supplies, sweet notes from the sponsors and their families, and some nice sweets!

Reuben, Masela, and Nyambe were so excited for their gifts that came all the way from America and South Africa. Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping us care for these children, we are truly blessed by all of you!

Mwanza: Goodbye, Laura!

This week at VOH Mwanza we said goodbye to Laura, a volunteer who has been with us for the past 7 weeks. Laura came to gather and create promotional materials for the Village and volunteered in our Kindergarten class in the mornings. We are very thankful for everything Laura was able to accomplish.

Before she left, she took such beautiful photos of all of our children and they loved posing for them!
