Mwanza’s New Head Teacher: this week at VOH Africa

Here’s what’s happening this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Mwanza: Meet Our New Head Teacher

At VOH Mwanza Pre- and Primary School we are happy at the beginning of this new school year to welcome a new Head Teacher. Mr Laurent Bageni is a wonderful addition to our VOH Mwanza team! He is doing a great job at the school and we already can see great improvements in his leadership.

Burundi: Meet Frederick

Frederick was one of the first children to join the VOH Burundi family when we began in 2009. Frederick graduated from high school in 2015 and upon graduating we helped him receive further training in the construction field. He now comes back to help us with repairs and maintenance around our facilities. It is a great encouragement to see him showing his appreciation by returning to help and stay connected with VOH. We truly are a family!

Chongwe: Visit from Government Officials

Betty, one of the young girls living in our Childrens’ Homes at VOH Chongwe, was given the honour of welcoming the Minister of Local Government (Mr Vincent Mwale) and presenting him with flowers. Betty is pictured here with our local social welfare officer.

Mr Mwale was visiting Chongwe as part of the celebrations that took place to celebrate the many development projects currently underway in the growing district of Chongwe.

Also in attendance were the area Chieftainess and our area member of Parliament.

Kenya: Canadian Visitors

Last week at VOH Kenya we had special visitors from Canada: Pastor Laurie and Rodney Ricker from Dunnville, Ontario. They came to visit the children and take part in our Sunday School program. The Children enjoyed showing them around and especially enjoyed the maple syrup treats they brought with them thanks to a donation from a Canadian maple syrup farm in Ontario. Thank you, Rickers, for showing love and support to VOH Kenya!

Kitwe: PTA Visit

This week at VOH Kitwe the leaders of the PTA came to the Village to observe teaching sessions at the school. Having them visit was a great encouragement to both the teachers and students because it reinforced their appreciation and support for their children’s education. We are happy to be providing education to children who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to be in school!

Malawi: Tea Party!

This week at VOH Malawi we held a Royal Tea for all of our girls 13 years and older. We encouraged them in the areas of self-worth, education, and respect for self and others. A few of our female staff shared powerful stories from their own experiences. They stood before them as living examples that education can and will make a difference in their lives.

To remind the girls of their status in the Kingdom of God and that they should face the challenges of adolescence together in unity, each one was given a matching purple chitenji (wrap) to wear. It was a beautiful event!

Mongu: Praise and Worship

The Hope Kids Music team at Hope Church made up of children from the VOH Mongu School and homes has gone above and beyond to make praise and worship the best it can be for everyone. This team strives to create a fun, inviting, and a loving place for kids each Sunday. This past week, they led just over 270 children in praise and worship by singing along to new tracks for songs composed by Hope Church music team members. We are amazed at the awesome talent of our VOH kiddos!

Zimbabwe: Graduation Success!

VOH Zimbabwe is proud of these two young girls from our children’s homes. They both just completed their O level (grade 12) exams and did very well! They are now moving on to Form 5 where we are sure they will continue to excel. It is always great to see the children working hard and doing so well with their education. We wish them all the very best as they enter their new schooling level!
