Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Zimbabwe: Medical Supplies Donation
Our clinic at VOH Zimbabwe was recently blessed with a donation from the Zimbabwe Association of Church-related hospitals. The donation included over 3,000 pairs of gloves, 200 blood pressure cuffs, and 8 sterilization cases. We continue to be thankful for the many supporters both local and from far away who stand with us at the Village and make it possible for us to provide care for those in our community.
Burundi: End of Term Results
Last week, our Preschool children at VOH Burundi were given their results for the second term. Many of their guardians and caregivers came to support them and hear about their improvements. The children presented a great program for those who came and later many of the guardians told us they are very thankful to VOH Burundi for our commitment to their children.
After receiving such good results, the kids were really happy. Some of them were jumping and dancing while others lifted up their classmates on their backs and carried them around as they all celebrated together. These beautiful kids really made our day!
Chongwe: End of Term Exams
This week the children at VOH Chongwe finished writing their end of term exams and were happy to be out of the classroom and get fresh air while helping their teachers with cleanup around the school. The whole school participated, and with so many helpers, the task was made easy and fun. The kids are thankful to be in school and happy to help out to keep their school clean.
Kenya: Exam Time
It’s exam time at VOH Kenya this week. The students have studied hard and prepared carefully for the exam papers they are now writing. We are confident their hard work will pay off, and they will receive good marks as a result.
In Kenya, education is highly valued. It’s considered that education is what will bring Kenya up in the world. The VOH children are thankful for the opportunity to be in school, well aware so many never receive the chance they have been given.
It’s been said by Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” We are thankful for every Village of Hope supporter that makes it possible for these children to learn.
Kitwe: New Basketball Hoops!
The VOH Kitwe youth are excited to receive new basketball hoops and balls this week from special friends in British Columbia. Our equipment was over 10 years old and very well used. This gift could not have come at a better time because it is Spring Break at school and there is lots of time for the kids to try out the new equipment.
Our basketball team is also preparing for a regional tournament and the new hoops and balls have raised morale, and excitement is high.
We have seen over the years just how important playing sports is in building interpersonal relationship skills. Those who don’t play still come out and cheer their friends on.
We wish our team lots of luck in the upcoming tournament!
Malawi: Family Visits
This week at VOH Malawi we were excited to send 50 children to their village of origin to visit with their extended families during the Easter holidays from school. Many of the children in our care have some family somewhere. Perhaps it’s an auntie and some cousins or a grandmother and grandfather. Though circumstances do not allow the child to be in their care full time it is important to us, the child, and the extended family that they maintain relationships with one another as the children grow up.
Mongu: Meet Sam
VOH Mongu is blessed to have Sam Zondagh, a short-term volunteer from South Africa with us. Sam has been helping teach math and science in the grade 7 class at the school and also working in the children’s homes.
At the school, in addition to helping with teaching, she is also working with our teachers to find new resources like lab and experiment equipment for the science class to improve the learning process for our kids.
In the children’s homes, Sam is holding support groups where the kids have a place to talk about their emotions and things they may be struggling with. The children are also given lots of opportunities to encourage one another.
We are so grateful for Sam’s serving heart and for everything that she is doing for the Village of Hope!
Mwanza: Easter Worship
At VOH Mwanza, we had a wonderful Easter Weekend! We held a Good Friday Service, a youth Seminar on Saturday, and a concert by Nairobi Gospel Choir on Saturday evening. It was such a blessing to have the NGC with us for Easter, they ministered through song and dance and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Thank you, Nairobi Gospel Choir for being such a blessing to VOH Mwanza!
Latest Blog: “Living with Disabilities: A Letter”
“This anonymous donor has a special spot in her heart for these children as she too is physically disabled and moves around in a wheelchair. She wrote the following letter to the children she connected with at VOH and we want to share it with you (with her permission) because we believe this letter offers great advice and inspiration for all of us.” (read more)
