VOH Chongwe: Exams

This week at VOH Chongwe all of our students started writing their end of first-term exams. These exams will help us assess what they have learned so far this year and what areas they may need additional instruction in. The kids have worked hard and are confident their exam results will be good.

VOH Burundi: Fostering Community

VOH Burundi is a place full of love where our children, staff, and volunteers enjoy having fun times together. We also provide a safe and secure place for the children during these troubled times in the nation of Burundi. Over the recent Easter holidays, the children still came to Bwiza Center to be together, to play, to dance and simply to have fun with one another and with the teachers and moms.

VOH Kenya: Groundbreaking Event

This past week at VOH Kenya we held a special groundbreaking event where we are constructing our new high school and ablution block. Students, teachers, guardians, parents, and community leaders were among those who attended the ceremony. We were also happy to welcome the Chairman and the Treasurer of the local Board, as well as Bishop Jagero, Pastor Silvance Otieno, and Ministers and Deacons of the VOH Community Church.

The children from the school presented a musical performance to celebrate the good news of the start of construction of the new buildings. Bishop Jagero prayed and dedicated the ground. The ablution block will be the first flush toilets in the community.

For the high school to be finally breaking ground is an answer to many prayers. Thanks to all who made this dream and vision a reality!

VOH Kitwe: Rainy Season is Here

Rainy season is a blessing because it brings forth lots of different fruits and vegetables that have been planted and cared for earlier in the year. During harvest time at VOH Kitwe, there are plenty of nutritious vegetables including maize corn, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes.

The house mothers work together with the children to harvest their crops. Learning how to plant and harvest is an important part of the children’s training as they grow up. Some of the vegetables are consumed fresh and others are preserved for the coming months by drying them. It is very rewarding for the children to be a part of the planting and harvesting and for them to later enjoy eating the food they have grown!

VOH Malawi: Hula-Hooping Fun!

This past week at VOH Malawi we found some of the boys showing off their skills with the hula hoop to one another. Danny and Richard both stay in the same home together and were competing to see who could hula the longest. They wanted Uncle Jef to be the judge, but I think it was a draw because he was too dizzy from watching them keep the hula hoop spinning around and around and around for such a long time to make any sort of accurate judgment call.

Most importantly, the children spent as much time smiling and laughing as they did hula-hooping, which all of us at VOH Malawi believe is the real purpose of the sport.

VOH Mongu: Sponsor Care Packages

At VOH Mongu, we are so blessed to have such incredible sponsors and supporters of our children. Many of the children received packages from their sponsors this month to encourage them in their new grade. Between coloring books, dolls, notebooks, clothes, and toy cars, they were so excited and felt so incredibly loved and taken care of. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsors one of these precious children!

VOH Mwanza: Highschool Visitors

At VOH Mwanza, we were happy to have a team of over 35 High School Students from West Island College in Canada comes for a few days to help us finish some renovations around the Village. They worked incredibly hard for 3 days. They finished painting our school, made the pathways from the bathrooms to the classrooms, and finished up some work in one of the children’s homes.

They did a wonderful job and were a pleasure to have around. On their last day, we ended our time together by enjoying some sporting activities and everyone had a fantastic time. We are always grateful for volunteers and thankful to make new friends. Thank you, West Island College!

VOH Zimbabwe: Easter Worship

During this past Easter weekend, many of our VOH Zimbabwe children were among those that led the singing during the worship time at the conference and Sunday Service held at Hope Community Church. We are very happy to see our children so excited to use their gifts and be a part of the church services. The Sunday service was held in our new Multipurpose Hall. We are thrilled to report a record attendance of close to 1,000 people!

Latest Blog: “Living with Disabilities: A Letter”

This anonymous donor has a special spot in her heart for these children as she too is physically disabled and moves around in a wheelchair. She wrote the following letter to the children she connected with at VOH and we want to share it with you (with her permission) because we believe this letter offers great advice and inspiration for all of us.” (read more)
