Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...
Serving the Elderly
It is always great to see the younger generation taking care of their elderly. Unfortunately, many of them do not have the means to provide food for their elderly family members.
VOH Mongu is so thankful to Feed My Starving Children for donating Manna Packs so we can help feed our community.
We started a feeding program for the elderly through the VOH clinic because we found that many of the elderly in our area were malnourished because they are too old to work and because they don’t contribute to their families anymore they only get given a very little amount of food.
VOH Burundi Children Choose Representative
This week at VOH Burundi, we had a great time with our older children, ages 12-18. We gathered together to talk about some important things in life and how to improve our commitment to them. They had time to ask questions and to speak out about their challenges in life.
It is very important to listen to children and to meet their needs when we are acting on their behalf. We ended the meeting by giving them an opportunity to conduct elections so they could choose their representative who will be communicating directly with the Village authorities on a regular basis on their behalf.
Congratulations to Eric Ndayikengurukiye, who was elected to be the General representative of all the VOH Burundi children!
VOH Chongwe Opens Tuck Shop
VOH Chongwe opened a Tuck Shop selling groceries, candies, and bread to the community. The Tuckshop will also be used as a tool to empower our teens with entrepreneurial and business skills. The teens are being guided by the newly formed Tuck-shop Committee.
The initial capital to start the tuck shop came from money raised from our local church during the VOH Chongwe promotion. All funds raised will go towards the daily operations of the Village.
Last day of School at VOH Kenya
VOH Kenya had their last day of school last week. A graduation ceremony took place that celebrated all the children’s acheievements and their continuation onto the next grade in January 2015. The top academic students from each class were recognized and the Hope Academy Choir sang for all the guests that came to be part of the celebration. Directors John and Jane Okello also gave a speech to encourage the children and applaud their hard work for the year!
Playtime at VOH Kitwe!
The VOH Kitwe children enjoy playing in the various playground structures that have been built by donations over the years. These structures help children develop physically, socially, and emotionally. We are thankful for every donation made to construct and maintain the playgrounds!
VOH Malawi Welcomes Director
Last week was the official handover of the keys for VOH Malawi from Interim Director, Harlyn Purdy, to the incoming Director, Jef Walton. Pastor Sam Banda, Chairman of the local VOH Board, was there to officiate the ceremony.
We are very thankful to Harlyn and his wife Helene’ who have provided excellent oversight and pastoral care during this interim period and are looking forward to great days ahead with Jef and Renatta Walton leading the way!
Executive Director Visits VOH Malawi
Excutive Director, Sergio Bersaglio taught the VOH Malawi staff during his recent visit. The staff were touched by his inspiring message about God’s love and the importance of discipling and showing that love to our children. We are God’s hands and feet and the children will be blessed through the ministry of Villages of Hope.
VOH Mwanza Family Photos!
Recently our new VOH Mwanza Directors, Julius and Jade, took a day to come and visit each of the nine children’s homes, to pray with each family and just get to know them a little. It was a great time.
We also decided to take a family photo at each home. We plan to have the photos printed and framed so each family can hang their family photo in their home. Everyone was very excited to have the family photos taken and we got some beautiful pictures!
