The VOH Kenya board met this week while VOH Africa Executive Director, Sergio Bersaglio was here for a visit.

After the Board meeting, some of the group headed up to the Village of Hope and were warmly greeted by the children and moms. It was lunch time and the group found the moms and children preparing chapatis for the homes – one of the children’s favourites!

Please join the VOH Chongwe family in welcoming our new Head Teacher, Mr. Blanchard Chabuka. In addition to being an experienced and skilled teacher, Mr. Chabuka has also had theological training and is currently an assistant pastor at his church.

We look forward to him providing leadership at the school and also during our chapel services. We know he will become a “Spiritual Father” to the children. He is very happy to join the VOH family, and we are happy to have him!

Kasongo Shikaputo is a 4th year student at the Copperbelt University in Kitwe, studying Accounting, and she decided to use some of her free time from school to come and be a blessing to the youth at Village of Hope.

Kasongo, seen in this picture wearing a visitor’s badge, had met some of our children and youth at a camp last year and was so impressed with those that she met and the things she heard about Village of Hope that she wanted to come and spend some time with them. On this visit she gave motivational talks about studying and character integrity.

Our girls were very thankful for her encouragement and availability. She has also promised to involve her twin brother and other students from the University to volunteer time in supporting what we are doing.

VOH Malawi recently harvested a bumper crop of maize, fifty 50kg bags were gathered from what they had grown! Martha, Felista, and Emily helped their house moms clean the maize by removing any stones that got mixed in.

The maize will be ground and used to prepare Nsima, the staple food in Malawi. Nsima is a thick porridge that is molded into patties and served with either beans, meat, or vegetables in a tomoto-and-onion sauce. The children love it!

IMG_0140Meet the New VOH Mongu Director

VOH Mongu is happy to introduce Moses Mwiya, a Pastor from Hope Church in Mongu. Moses has been part of the work at Village of Hope for quite some time and has been working very closely with Matthew Mackie, the current VOH Mongu Director.

Moses has officially been made the new Director at VOH Mongu and because they already know him very well and have seen that he has a big heart for them, the house moms, teachers and children have welcomed him into this new role. He is doing an outstanding job and Matthew Mackie continues to also be very closely involved at the Village as one of the leaders of the Zambia Project.

IMG_0141Save a Life Center Stories

Meet little Mbachinenge, she arrived at the VOH Mongu clinic last week and the staff were all shocked to see her condition. Her face was badly swollen and her eyes were swollen so badly that she could not see out of them properly and they had become badly infected due to the swelling.

She stayed at the clinic for two nights and was released over the weekend, but due to a lack of correct food and care at home she was readmitted on Monday. With the care that she is receiving Mbachinenge is improving a lot already and she now loves to eat and play! She is a very sweet girl and we all are looking forward to seeing her completely well very soon.

 Photo of the Week:

Last week at VOH Malawi we were taking some new pictures for our #BringingHope photo project and the children and moms were all having a great time! Julliet Banda, one of the house moms, couldn’t help but “clown” around with the children when they were all getting their outfits on for the pictures!
