This week at VOH Africa, we held student training sessions, participated in Health Week, and had our first fish harvest!
VOH Bulale: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders
At VOH Bulale, we are committed to nurturing the potential of our youth, starting right from their college and university days.
As part of our ongoing efforts, we recently organized a student behaviour training session. This training aimed to address various aspects of personal development and well-being among students.
The training session successfully achieved its objectives. Participants actively engaged in discussions and activities, demonstrating a keen interest in learning and personal development. The knowledge imparted during the session will empower students to make informed decisions regarding their health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Our commitment to the development of our youth doesn’t end here. We pledge to continue organizing such impactful sessions. Together, we’ll create a community where every young individual feels empowered.
VOH Bwiza: VOH Graduates Giving Back
At VOH Bwiza, we are happy to see our graduates returning to our centre to give back to VOH.
Frederick is one of our alumni who was cared for by VOH Burundi and graduated with a degree in construction and plumbing. He is now married and has a child.
This week, Frederick was busy building our kitchen and doing repairs in our classrooms.
We are encouraged to see former students remain connected to VOH and return to encourage their peers and offer support.
We look forward to seeing what God has in store for Frederick and his little family!
VOH Chongwe: First Fish Harvest
Our first fish harvest at VOH Chongwe was a success!
We went from a total weight below 1 kilogram of fingerlings (baby fish) to a harvest of 216 kilograms!
The team was excited to have this long-awaited harvest following the initial stocking of fingerlings in September 2023. It is also gratifying to note that the anticipated first harvest of the Fish Food Production Project was finally realized.
The children were thrilled to see the fish harvested from a pond within the confines of the centre, a different experience from what they are used to: fish bought from the market.
This fish project will go a long way in providing much-needed protein for the children. Income from the sale of surplus fish will also supplement our centre’s budget.
We are so grateful to our donors who funded this project!
VOH Kitwe: End-of-Term Tests
This week, VOH Kitwe children are writing end-of-the-term tests. These assessments test whether children understood what they learnt in the first term of the year.
The students were busy in the library studying for their tests. While they study, their teachers are always available to facilitate discussions and to help everyone review the materials.
It is great to see the children happy and grateful to be in school and appreciate all the help they receive from teachers!
VOH Malawi: Ellacy’s Story
Meet Ellacy, a remarkable young woman who embarked on her journey with VOH Malawi at the age of 8. From the outset, she has demonstrated unwavering determination and self-motivation, achieving remarkable academic success along the way.
With dreams of becoming a nurse, Ellacy’s dedication to her studies never wavered, culminating in excellent grades in her final exams.
In her pursuit of funding for tertiary education, Ellacy took on the role of an intern at our centre, showcasing her initiative and drive.
We are proud to announce that Ellacy has been selected to study at a college where she will study to become a teacher. Despite her initial dream of becoming a nurse, Ellacy has chosen teaching as a stepping stone towards reaching her ultimate goal.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to God, sponsors, and all who have played a part in Ellacy’s journey thus far. As she bids farewell to VOH Malawi, we offer her our sincerest wishes for a bright and successful future.
Ellacy’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and the support of a caring community.

VOH Maramvya: Start of the Third Term
This week, children and staff at VOH Maramvya returned to school for the start of the third term.
The campus was bustling with activity as students reunited with their friends and teachers, eager to embark on a new academic journey.
As the term progresses, students gear up for the challenges and opportunities ahead. They are prepared to set ambitious goals and strive for excellence in their studies.
Classes resumed with teachers delving into the curriculum, engaging students in thought-provoking discussions and interactive learning experiences.
In addition to academic pursuits, VOH Maramvya promotes the holistic well-being of its students. The school continues prioritizing mental health and wellness initiatives, offering counselling services and mindfulness workshops to support students’ emotional growth and personal development.
We wish them all the best in the coming term!
VOH Mongu: Health Week
Health Week at our VOH Mongu school was a resounding success once again!
This week plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the well-being of our students, ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve. Throughout the week, our dedicated clinic team worked tirelessly to conduct thorough examinations for all 864 children enrolled in our school.
The primary focus of Health Week is to assess and monitor various aspects of the children’s health. We collect height and weight measurements to track growth and conduct eye screenings to detect visual impairments. Additionally, each child receives a general health check-up to identify and address any underlying health concerns promptly.
The significance of Health Week extends beyond mere medical examinations; it embodies our commitment to holistic care and proactive health management. By proactively monitoring the health of our students, we empower them to lead healthy lifestyles and excel in their academic endeavours.
VOH Mwanza: Visit from West Island College
Last week was an exceptional time at VOH Mwanza as we hosted guests from Canada’s West Island College. Among them were 34 outstanding individuals whose generosity brought us immense joy and appreciation.
Their acts of kindness were remarkable as they spread love and support throughout our community.
Here’s a glimpse of the fantastic accomplishments they achieved during their visit:
- Contributions: They arrived with a plethora of educational materials, sparking excitement among our children for the learning journey ahead.
- Home Transformation: With paintbrushes and overflowing compassion, they revitalized the six children’s homes, infusing each with hope and warmth.
- Fun and Play: Laughter filled the air as they engaged our children in various enjoyable activities, from lively sports matches to moments of pure joy.
