This Week: Distributing Porridge Packs

This week at VOH Africa, we made doormats, welcomed a new teacher, and distributed porridge packs!

VOH Bulale: Making Doormats

This week marked a remarkable chapter in the journey of our VOH Bulale family. Our talented grade five students took centre stage, unveiling their creativity and skills.

Under the guidance of Madam Bertha, these innovators crafted doormats during their vocational skills session.

The dedication and enthusiasm of our students never cease to amaze us, and we thank Madam Bertha for her incredible training and mentorship.

By empowering these students with skills and fostering a spirit of innovation, we are not just building a brighter future for them individually but also sowing seeds of positive change for our entire community. Together, we are creating a brighter and more promising future for the incredible young minds at VOH Bulale!

VOH Bwiza: Miriam Graduates

This week at VOH Bwiza, we are thrilled to celebrate Mariam’s graduation!

When Mariam was five years old, she was cared for by a diplomat lady from Tanzania who was a faithful local church member. After several years, the loving caregiver passed away. It was a significant loss.

Miriam’s mother then applied for Miriam to join our VOH program. Miriam was accepted and was able to continue attending school.

This week, we are proud to announce that Miriam graduated high school! She passed the government exams and is now able to attend University.

We are so proud of Miriam, and we look forward to seeing all the great plans God has for her life!

VOH Chongwe: Having Fun while Cleaning

This week at VOH Chongwe, the children have been busy cleaning with the usual supervision of the house mothers. As the reopening of schools nationwide has been delayed due to a Cholera outbreak, the children have been using part of this time to maintain and clean the property, especially around the homes.

With children, every activity is an opportunity to have fun, even cleaning.

Grace and Lillian were busy clearing grass off the ground with their hand hoes while Gift and Owen focused on grass slashing. Meanwhile, James enjoyed removing weeds from the beautiful flowers in front of the art room.

VOH Chongwe is glad that the children have a positive attitude towards cleaning and maintaining their surroundings, a worthwhile virtue for healthier and productive lives!

VOH Kitwe: Porridge Packs To-Go

Schools are still closed due to the cholera outbreak in Zambia. Since most children come to our centre for daily porridge, the VOH Kitwe administration worked with the school staff to assemble packs of the soya porridge powder for each child.

This week, we called our youngest students to come and collect their packs. They came with their parents, and the children and parents were so happy we took the time to prepare these to-go packages for them.

The parents said that hunger has stricken their homes during this outbreak, but these packets will ensure their children can continue receiving the nutrition they need.

For any children who were unable to come and collect their packages, our staff will deliver them directly to their homes, so nobody is left out.

We are so grateful for our hardworking and dedicated staff, who go out of their way to ensure the children are well cared for!

VOH Luongo: Meet Sophie

Sophie joined our VOH Luongo school in grade 2. She lives with her parents and comes to school daily at our centre.

Sophie helps her parents at home with chores. She does well in school and is excited to start grade 7 this year!

When Sophie finishes school, she wants to be a doctor to help people in her community. Her parents are so grateful for all that VOH Luongo is doing for Sophie and other children in the community!

VOH Malawi: Chisomo’s Story

Meet Chisomo, a shining example of dedication and perseverance. Having joined VOH Malawi at the tender age of 7, he has spent the past 13 years embodying hard work and commitment. His academic journey has been commendable, culminating in his successful graduation after passing his final high school exams.

Now, Chisomo continues his journey with VOH Malawi as an intern, eager to give back to the organization that nurtured him. His roles span various departments, including education, hospitality, gardening, and administration.

Inspired by the hope he received as a child, Chisomo is determined to uplift and inspire VOH kids, mirroring the support he once received.

Chisomo dreams of one day becoming a doctor. In the meantime, he plans to study hospitality management as a stepping stone towards reaching his ultimate goal.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to Chisomo’s sponsors, whose support has brought smiles to his face for the past 13 years. Additionally, we thank God for guiding Chisomo to his current position. We can’t wait to see him achieve his dreams and make a lasting impact on the world!

VOH Mongu: Save a Life Centre Update

At Save a Life, we aim to revitalize malnourished babies and children, guiding them back to robust health. Our comprehensive approach entails delivering vital medical attention and sustenance and imparting crucial knowledge to caregivers, empowering them to safeguard against recurrence.

Our staff diligently tends to approximately 50 children each month, extending our support far beyond clinic walls through regular home visits. This week, we distributed essential provisions to caregivers, ensuring sustenance for the children at home.

Additionally, our dedicated team conducted thorough check-ups at our clinic, affirming each child’s progress and addressing any emerging concerns. Every child in our care receives personalized attention, ensuring that no one slips through the cracks on the journey to recovery.

Through our concerted efforts, we strive to heal and instill lasting resilience, fostering healthier futures for the vulnerable young lives we serve.

VOH Mwanza: Spreading Love and Warmth

This week at VOH Mwanza, our hearts were filled with warmth as we distributed bedding and blankets to the children most in need from our VOH family.

In a collaborative effort, we identified ten children without proper bed sheets and blankets. We then acquired these items for the children, who were thrilled.

This particular project is a testament to the power of community and compassion, where every child is seen, valued, and cared for. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our donors and sponsors, whose unwavering support is the heartbeat of our mission. Your kindness creates a tangible impact on the lives of these children.

Let’s continue to believe in the power of collective goodness. Let’s continue to wrap love around every VOH child!

VOH Zimbabwe: HVD Football Academy

We had a fun-filled weekend at VOH Zimbabwe! In our efforts to reach more children in the community, we partnered with HVD Football Academy to identify athletic talent among children aged 14-18.

Over 350 children gathered at the centre to showcase their skills, hoping to secure one of the final 66 spots for training. They all did a fantastic job!

Sport plays a significant role in the holistic development of children. Engaging in sports promotes physical fitness and contributes to a child’s mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Given the backgrounds of most of our children, this event provided an excellent opportunity for them to interact with others, explore their talents, and position themselves for future opportunities!
