VOH Chongwe (Zambia): Baby Fish Tanks

We are so excited to have installed eight fish tanks stocked with fingerlings at VOH Chongwe! This important component of our fish production project has a more child-friendly production system than fish ponds.

The children can learn how fish can be grown in tanks through this project. The children will learn about feeding, water quality management, sampling, and weighing to monitor growth.

This knowledge will help the children appreciate what is involved in fish farming, from stocking babies in the tanks to harvesting them once the fish are ready.

When we began assembling the tanks, the children could only look on from afar. But now that they are fully functional and stocked, the time has come for them to take a closer look.

The children asked many impressive questions, such as what diseases fish suffer from and how to prevent and treat them. It was also great to learn that some children knew the fish needed air pumped into the water because they were confined in a smaller space than a fish pond.

We look forward to a fun and exciting learning journey for the children and a successful fish project!

VOH Kitwe (Zambia): Meet Mercy

It is a new year with new achievements for the children of VOH Kitwe. This week, we would like to introduce you to Mercy, who joined the VOH Kitwe family as a preschooler.

Mercy is a single orphan and lives with her mother. Her educational journey has been inspiring and exciting because of her intelligence and good behaviour in school.

Last year, Mercy wrote her grade 9 national exams and passed with flying colours! She is among the first grade 9 girls to get the highest marks in the district.

Mercy’s mother is proud of her daughter’s outstanding achievement and is thankful for the support she has been receiving from VOH.

Mercy is now starting grade 10, and once she finishes high school, she wants to study medicine, which will enable her to become a doctor and serve her community.

We are so proud of Mercy and are grateful to have her as part of our VOH family!

You can sponsor a child like Mercy and make a difference in their life through child sponsorship! Learn more at sponsorship.vohafrica.com

VOH Luongo (Zambia): Grade 7 Exam Results

At the end of 2023, our grade 7 students at VOH Luongo wrote their national exams. This week, it is with great joy that we share they all passed and are moving on to grade 8!

The exam was challenging and competitive, but our students got excellent grades. We want to thank our dedicated teachers for a job well done. They played a vital role in ensuring the students were prepared for the exams.

As a reward for their achievement, Mr. Silungwe and his team, who are friends of VOH Luongo and have previously blessed our school with various donations, donated more school supplies. We are so grateful for the kind gesture.

We are so happy that our school is preparing these young students for what lies ahead on their educational journey. The children and their parents are filled with hope for a bright future ahead!

VOH Maramvya (Burundi): A Joyful Return to School

January 8th was the first day back to school for VOH Maramvya students. At 6:30 in the morning, the children gather at the centre for breakfast as usual, filled with excitement for meeting their friends and returning to school after a two-week holiday.

After singing the national anthem and raising the Burundian flag, the children were excited as the head teacher announced their results from the first term, thanking them for their effort and encouraging them to do even better this term.

You could hear joy and laughter as the children headed to their classrooms, sharing stories about their Christmas holidays. The happiness of returning to school and being with their friends again made it a joyous morning at VOH Maramvya.

VOH Maramvya has become a pillar of hope for these children, who are living testimonies of the great things God has done and is doing through our staff and sponsors!

VOH Mwanza (Tanzania): New Classrooms

The children brimmed with joy this week at VOH Bulale as they returned to their newly completed classrooms. The classrooms, completed during their school break, are a testament to our staff’s dedication and hard work and the commitment from our faithful donors.

The children were joyful as they explored their new classrooms, eager to return to learning.

As we embark on this new academic year, excitement is in the air. We are so grateful to our dedicated staff, who are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. They understand that education is not just about memorizing facts and figures but about fostering a love for learning.

We are filled with hope and anticipation for the opportunities that await our students in 2024!
