VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Donated Clothing from BC Container!
This week at VOH Chongwe, we distributed clothing that came in a container. It’s always a joyous and exciting time for the children when they receive something new to wear! In addition to new clothes, the children also received shoes, backpacks, and other special items from this year’s donated container. Our staff helped with the distribution and ensured that all COVID-19 measures were followed. We want to thank Christian Life Assembly in BC and everyone involved in this year’s container for working so hard to organize and send clothes for our children. You have once again put smiles on everyone’s faces!
VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: Update from Joseph
Last year, we shared how we helped Joseph, one of our VOH Kitwe children, when he was in poor health. He received medical attention from our VOH clinic and was given nutritional support to help him gain strength and boost his immunity. Since then, our staff has given him regular follow-ups to ensure he is improving. We are happy to report that today Joseph is well and strong! His health has improved tremendously. He attends classes regularly, and his academic performance is very good. Joseph enjoys learning and taking part in various school activities. He says his favourite subject is science. Joseph’s family has told us they are very grateful for all that VOH is doing. They say that Joseph has been given hope, and they know his future now looks bright.
VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Providing Clean Water to our Community
People depend on water for drinking, cooking, washing, and many other domestic needs. In the past, those living in the community of Luongo, where our VOH Centre is located, did not have access to sufficient, clean, and safe water. Most of the boreholes dug locally dried up very fast, leaving the community without enough water for their daily needs. We are thankful that we have been blessed with a borehole at VOH Luongo! The borehole provides continuous access to all of the clean water that we need. One of the ways we help our neighbours is by welcoming those who are living in the surrounding community to come to the Centre for clean water from our borehole. The staff has drawn up a schedule and monitors usage to ensure everyone has access to a fair supply. We are so grateful to our donors for making it possible for us to provide safe water to VOH Luongo and the Luongo community!
VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Back to School!
It’s back-to-school here at VOH Mongu after a long break while schools were closed due to Zambia’s recent rise of COVID-19 cases. It’s wonderful to have our kids back and ready for lessons. The teachers are well prepared, and our students are eager to learn. We have strict measures in place to ensure students and staff follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. In addition, our school will be kept clean and sanitized so it can remain a safe place for our kids to learn and play. We know everyone will work together to make this year a safe and successful one!
VOH Mwanza (Tanzania) Update: Greenhouse Gardening
The greenhouse at VOH Mwanza is looking very green this season! Thanks to our greenhouse and regular gardens, we have access to fresh veggies year-round. The veggies we grow are part of the children’s menu and add extra nutrients to their meals. Our housemothers appreciate the availability of fresh vegetables for cooking, and so do the children. The greenhouse makes it possible for us to have a better crop yield, it helps us protect our crops from pests and harsh weather, and it gives us the option to plant a variety of vegetables year-round.
VOH Zimbabwe Update: Back to School!
It was all smiles as the VOH Zimbabwe kids returned to class this week! Schools in the country were closed for four months due to increased COVID-19 cases, and It’s so exciting for all of us here at the VOH Centre to see the children back in class. Although our students continued to do their school work from home, it’s ultimately a good thing that school is back and that interaction with other students and teachers is possible again. We are happy to receive them back and will do all we can to ensure those writing their exams this year will be successful. It will be more of a challenge than usual, given the time they have been away but we are all committed to working with them and look forward to another year of great exam results!
