VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Welcome Back, Preschool Students!

At VOH Bwiza, we are delighted to welcome back our preschool students after a two-month break! Everyone started the day with some breakfast before their morning lessons. We are looking forward to what this new year has in store for our children, and we pray they will stay healthy and work hard to succeed!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Colgate Zambia Visits

This week at VOH Chongwe, a team from Colgate Zambia visited us! Colgate Zambia is championing a brighter future for children and their families and looking to partner with organizations with a similar focus. Both Colgate and VOH understand the importance of finding learning opportunities that help children learn the best ways to look after themselves. As part of our hygiene program, we teach the children the importance of oral health care. We talk about foods that are bad for teeth and foods that will help prevent cavities. The kids were thrilled by Colgate’s visit and were excited to receive toothpaste and new toothbrushes.

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: Cooking Class!

Our grade six students at VOH Kitwe are learning cooking skills! As part of their cooking class, the teacher demonstrated proper food hygiene and reminded students to practice what they learned about the WHO’s nutritional guidelines. The students were so excited to cook a variety of dishes. They prepared some local favourites, including pumpkin leaves mixed with groundnuts, beans, cassava leaves, Nshima, rice, and sausage. They also made juice from oranges that grow on the trees here at our VOH Centre. After preparing the food, the students brought it to the administration staff for a taste test. The staff loved it, and the children were happy and encouraged to hear they had cooked such a delicious meal!

VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Paul and Justin Come to School

This week, VOH Luongo would like you to meet Paul and Justin. Before schools closed earlier this year due to COVID-19, their mother relocated with her two boys from the Luongo community to another village further away. Fortunately, their mother knew the importance of the education and feeding program VOH Luongo offers and still allowed the boys to make the slightly longer journey to the Centre daily.

VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: Preparing for School Startup

The new school year starts next week at VOH Maramvya, and we are frequently meeting as we prepare for the student’s return! We want it to be another great school year for everyone, and that takes lots of preparation and planning! During the meetings, we prepare the children’s school materials, discuss how best to welcome students back, and plan our COVID-19 safety protocols and training. Our children are the number one priority, and we want to do whatever we can to improve their lives now and in the future!
