Kitwe: Global Hand Washing Day
Recently VOH Kitwe took part in Global Hand Washing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding around the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent disease and save lives.
We joined in to remind and encourage our children the importance of always making sure their hands are clean and they are washing them with soap and clean water. We were sure to make the reminders fun and our children had a good time with their house moms and they were proud to show off their clean hands!
Burundi: Exam Preparation
At VOH Burundi our teachers and students are working hard to prepare for the upcoming grade 9 national examinations. The extra lessons our tutors provide are also a huge help to the students as they prepare.
The tutors we work with are also helped personally because the money that they earn goes towards their university and college tuitions.
We are expecting great results from our students again this year. Last year we had 100% of our grade 9 students pass into the next grade! We very much appreciate our teacher’s and tutor’s commitment and dedication to the Village of Hope students.
Chongwe: Prepping for 2018!
It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of the year! At VOH Chongwe our Lead Team is meeting three times a week to strategically plan for 2018. During these meetings, the team is reviewing the 2017 initiatives and programs and also looking at new initiatives for the coming year. Meeting like this will help us ensure the children are cared for in the best way.
Mongu: Expanding Occupational Therapy
Our VOH Mongu resident Occupational Therapist, Megan, has been able to invite more children from the community into our health department and provide clinic and at-home occupational therapy for around 30 children. In Zambian culture, it is viewed as misfortune and not well understood when a family has a child with disabilities, but we are seeing how therapy and education are creating openness and acceptance towards those with disabilities. We are so excited to see God moving in the communities, the families, and the lives of these sweet children!
Mwanza: Expanding our Family!
At VOH Mwanza we are celebrating with Happy, our Child Protection Officer, who recently gave birth to her second child, a baby girl named Hosanna. We thank God that both Mama and baby are doing very well! We were excited to have Happy stop by the Village recently and bring the baby to visit everyone. Baby Hosanna is so cute and it was a treat to meet her!
Zimbabwe: VBS!
VOH Zimbabwe is enjoying the team from Fergus, Ontario who are currently with us. The kids are having a blast attending the Vacation Bible School program the team is running! Pastor John and his team are having a lot of fun with the kids, too, spending most of their afternoons with the children conducting VBS as part of our after-school discipleship program. VBS incorporates Bible teaching, games, and art activities that promote teamwork. We appreciate those who come and show such love for our children!
