Nutrition Expo: this week at VOH Africa

Welcome to our weekly news roundup! Here we share stories from each of our Villages about our Programs, celebrations, children, and staff. If you’d like to receive these updates via email, please subscribe to our newsletter.

Mongu: Nutrition Expo

Staff at the VOH Mongu health clinic, along with some volunteers from Australia, had a great time doing a Nutrition Expo in the community this week! We set up next to a local market and we did a short educational play, taught on nutrition and hygiene, and screened children from the community for malnourishment.

It was great getting the community involved in healthcare and helping them to become more aware of the risks of malnutrition and other diseases. We love our community!

Upcoming Event: An Evening of Hope

Join us this Fall for Evening of Hope 2017! Enjoy dinner with friends and learn more about our work in Africa featuring testimonies from VOH Africa graduates Patricia and Samuel and music by Richard Chimbetete. Find out more and purchase tickets on our Events page or directly through Eventbrite.

Burundi: Planning the School Year

This week at VOH Burundi we held our first meeting for the new school year! We reviewed our code of conduct with the students and to encouraged them to work hard throughout the school year.

Students were also given the opportunity to elect representatives to sit on this year’s Student Committee. We are happy to have this avenue for students to express their ideas and any concerns that may arise!

Chongwe: Reptile Park Field Trip!

During the Whittaker family’s recent visit to VOH Chongwe, the 64 children living in our children’s homes along with our lead team and house moms joined the family for a visit to Kalimba Reptile Farm.

They saw crocodiles, turtles, snakes, and birds. Everyone enjoyed the trip! We would like to thank our visitors for making this special field trip possible.

Kitwe: Hot Season is Here!

It is hot season again in Zambia and at VOH Kitwe during recess, our children play outside in the fresh air and enjoy the light breeze and shade trees! They meet their friends on the playground and court and enjoy the break.

At VOH Kitwe we have over 1,000 students attending school with classes from preschool through grade twelve. These times of play give students the opportunity to build friendships and learn to play well with one another.

Malawi: Learning Shapes!

This week at VOH Malawi students in Kauma are back for their new school year. We peeked in on the grade one class and found them learning their shapes. The students were diligently copying each shape into their notebook and learning their names as they worked. It is so exciting to see the enthusiasm that comes from the children when they are learning something for the first time!

Mwanza: “Mama Sale”

At VOH Mwanza a couple times a year we like to do what we call a “Mama Sale” for our staff. Throughout the year we get many items donated that we can’t use for our children at the Village and so we do a big sale and sell them to our staff at very low prices and the funds go to support the work of VOH.

This is a way to use what’s been donated so it doesn’t go to waste and bless our hard-working staff for all they do. Everyone gets very excited for Mama Sale days!

Zimbabwe: Child Protection Planning

At VOH Zimbabwe our child protection officer recently reviewed our Child Protection Policy with the children’s committee at the Village. It is important that we prioritize keeping the VOH children safe to ensure a bright future for them. Find out more about our child protection at vohafrica.com/child-protection

We have a new website!
