Medical Training: this week at VOH Africa

Here’s what’s happening this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

*

Chongwe: Medical Training

At VOH Chongwe three of our youth were trained by the Ministry of Health so they can help their friends when they are experiencing health problems.

The goal of the training is for the youth to be aware of any children who are having health problems and to encourage them to let the trained youth go with them to the clinic and help them explain their situation to the nurse.

This training will help the children who are shy or nervous to still seek medical attention because they will be accompanied by a friend who cares and understands.

Kenya: 8th-Grade Exams

This week VOH Kenya held a special prayer for our 8th-grade students as they prepare to write their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Exams. Nearby Community Leaders, together with VOH Kenya Church pastors and staff, as well as fellow students all joined in the prayer.

The students need to pass these exams in order to continue on to high school. They will be writing their exams next week.

Kitwe: Staff Appreciation Day

Every year at VOH Kitwe our staff take a day off from work for staff appreciation day. It’s a time to relax and have fun together. There are lots of games and a chance to share a good meal.

The housemothers always enjoy bringing along the younger children who live in their homes and the kids get very excited to be outdoors with their moms and the other staff members. It’s a great family building time for everyone!

Mongu: Before and After

VOH Mongu is so pleased to see the progress that little Njamba and Namushiare making at the Save a Life feeding program. These twins came to the Centre when they were 2 months old, weighing only 2.3 kgs and 1.6 kgs respectively. Now just two months later they weigh 4.98 kgs and 4.08 kgs.

This is incredible growth in just two months time and their mother is so happy with their progress.

We are looking forward to seeing them reach a healthy weight by the time they complete their stay at the clinic.

Thank you to all who make it possible for us to keep the Save a Life feeding program running, bringing hope to these precious young lives!

Mwanza: Meet Bitia

Meet Bitia, one of the teenagers living at VOH Mwanza. Bitia is 17 years old and has lived at the Village since she was just 2 years old. It’s exciting to see her ready to complete Grade 10 in just a month’s time!

Bitia says that she is looking forward to continuing with her studies until she graduates from grade 12.

In addition to her studies she is very helpful at home, she helps with the cooking and loves looking after her younger siblings. Bitia is also a part of the worship team at church every Sunday.

It is wonderful to see the lovely young lady that she has become!

Zimbabwe: Fundraising Dinner

VOH Zimbabwe held a local fundraising dinner last Friday night in Harare where our Village is located. The purpose of the evening was to show appreciation to our existing partners and to create new relationships with potential local donors. We were thrilled to have 130 people in attendance and were thankful to have the opportunity to share about all of the things that take place at the Village of Hope
