Kenya: Early Childhood Development
At VOH Kenya, we have a wonderful Early Childhood Development program consisting of 3 classes of children ages 3-6.
We have 45 children in our ECD program and they attend for a full day, receiving a breakfast of porridge and a nutritious lunch consisting of a variety of foods including maize, beans, rice, ugali, vegetables, and meats.
In class, they learn math, English, Swahili, Christian education, Reading, and Grammar. By the end of the ECD program, the children are ready for grade one and able to communicate in English, Swahili, and Luo languages.
You can walk into these classrooms at any time of day and see happy faces, singing, and laughter!
Burundi: Executive Director Visits
We had a great time of sharing here at VOH Burundi with Uncle Serge last week. The children are still remembering and talking about this powerful and exciting lesson based on the prodigal son!
Chongwe: VBS!
During school break this past week the kids at VOH Chongwe had a great time at Vocational Bible School (VBS) with Emily, Jen, and Sarah from Ontario, Canada. Activities included playing games and sports, learning how to play guitar, and Bible teaching.
Kitwe: Learning to Knit
At VOH Kitwe, while our school is on recess the children are devoting their time to learning knitting. Our team of house moms is busy teaching the children basic knitting skills. They are making head socks, scarves, and jerseys.
Everyone is excited about this program and the students are having lots of fun creating and trying on the things they make!
Malawi: Love Malawi Festival
We were glad to welcome a team from the Love Malawi Festival to VOH Malawi this week. They danced with us, brought puppets, and performed a hilarious drama that had all the kids cheering and laughing!Mongu: New Uniforms!
Mongu: Occupational Therapy Room
We are excited about the Occupational Therapy room under construction at VOH Mongu.
The new therapy room is right next to our classrooms and will assist the occupational therapist there to better serve the school. Our resident occupational therapist, Megan, will be able to do more therapy with the children in the classrooms and will be better suited to assist teachers in their classrooms this way.
We will be able to do therapy with at least 15 new children with the use of this therapy room, making it a total of 45 children that we are able to treat thanks to these new facilities!
Mwanza: Musical Talent
VOH Mwanza is filled with talented kids and it is our desire to foster an environment in which our children continue to discover their gifts.
Two of our youth, Revocatus and Massele, are learning to play the keyboard and are determined to excel! They plan their time together with their high school studies, so they can fit in even a few minutes to practice during the evenings and on weekends.
They hope to play with the church worship team and also to compose their own music.
Zimbabwe: Making Jewelry
The land VOH Zimbabwe is located on is endowed with natural stones, which can be easily found and collected around the property. We have started a program to train our children how to cut and polish the stones and to make jewelry.
This new skill will help them in the future and provides a new income source to help us with the care of the children at the Village.
A special thanks to our friends who provided the machinery we are using that make this new training program possible!
