Teaching Child Protection: this week at VOH Africa

Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Kitwe: Teaching Child Protection

This week at VOH Kitwe we shared about our child protection with our neighboring community. We reached out to the community caregivers in Racecourse and VOH Kitwe Director Everlyn Chitente was given an opportunity to address the women on how to ensure children are safe from both physical and emotional dangers.

The group we met with is the Community Welfare Assistance Committee (CWAC). We are happy this is one more way we can provide support to our neighbors!

Burundi: Children’s Representative Committee

This week at VOH Burundi the Children’s Representative Committee held a meeting for all of the children under our care. We are conscious that children can be easily educated and helped by their peers and so we like to give them opportunities to meet without any adults present.

During these times they express their feelings, fears, and expectations freely with one another and the Children’s Representative Committee is then assigned to share any questions or concerns with the staff. This allows us to help our children more effectively.

Kenya: Youth Camp

june.03.2016 KENYA

Every year, VOH Kenya’s church holds a youth camp for youth from VOH Kenya and the surrounding community. They spend four days and three nights together.

This year’s theme was “The prodigal son.” At youth camp, several pastors are there to teach the youth. One of our special guests this year was Uncle Sergio Bersaglio, Executive Director of VOH Africa. He spoke to the youth for two days on the love and character of the Father. We were glad to have Uncle Sergio come and be part of this special event!

Malawi: Drama Performance

This week at VOH Malawi some of the boys performed a drama during the Kauma chapel service. Mr. Mwawa worked hard with them for the hour leading up to chapel and the performance was executed brilliantly with more than a few giggles and thunderous applause. Well done, boys!

Mongu: Artistic Class!

Isaac, one of our amazing grade 8 boys living in a children’s home at VOH Mongu, is an absolutely incredible artist and recently is learning how to use different mediums in his drawing and painting. He receives lessons from one of our staff members, Megan, for the past year.

Recently he asked if more children can join as he had many of his friends wanting to learn. We now have more than 10 children attending art lessons each week and we are seeing them fall in love with being creative and expressing themselves through art.

We are so excited to have a place to facilitate creativity and passion in this way and can’t wait to see it continue to grow!

Mwanza: Ontario Team

Recently at VOH Mwanza, we had a team from Mississauga, Ontario. What a blessing they were to us! The men helped with the construction of a new septic tank for our new homes, and the women helped Chantal (who is a nurse) complete medical check-ups for every single child.

They had devotionals each morning with the staff, and they played with the children. They also planted trees and helped serve lunch at our daily feeding program.

We are beyond thankful for their generosity and their hearts to serve Village of Hope!

Zimbabwe: Fundraising Concert!

At VOH Zimbabwe, we kicked off our local fundraising initiatives with a musical concert. The children were treated to fun by a clown from Canada and there was lots of music and dancing. The children in the choir are all from VOH and they were excited to be a part of helping to raise funds locally for all that we do at Village of Hope.
