VOH Chongwe: Boxes of Love Arrive!
VOH Chongwe was happy to see the annual Boxes of Love container drive through our gates this past week. We are receiving the container on behalf of all the Zambia Villages (Kitwe, Mongu, and Chongwe) and the items will be distributed over the coming weeks. It was a joyful moment for the staff and children and the celebrations were great when the container arrived.
We would like to thank our faithful friends for once again blessing us with this container of goods that we know have been packed with love!
VOH Burundi: Child Protection
VOH Burundi is happy to report this past week we led our children in another child protection training workshop. During the sociopolitical situation, our country is going through, we feel it is important to refresh our children on how to keep themselves safe and ask for help if they see any signs of danger.
The training was led by our Child protection officer, Odette, who focused on how to keep yourself safe and how to seek and get help.
VOH Kenya: Volleyball Tournament
Sports are an important part of the children’s school life at VOH Kenya. In this photo, the children are playing competitive volleyball against a neighboring school. Over the last week, our school’s team has been diligently practicing for this sporting event. All the participants put their best foot forward in this friendly game. Even the spectators are fully involved in the event, cheering their team on!
VOH Kitwe: Welcoming Return Visitors
VOH Kitwe once again welcomes John and Marilyn Walker along with Aunty Sue Dunn, who all reside in Ontario. They are with us for the next several weeks to work with the Kachimfya Youth Empowerment Program. Our school put on a welcome program for them with lots of singing and dancing. It is always wonderful to see friends who have been here in the past, return for another visit.
VOH Malawi: Community Church 11th Anniversary
The community church our VOH Malawi children attend recently celebrated 11 years in the area. To mark the occasion, the teenagers performed an excellent drama before the congregation. It opened with a blind girl seeking help from the community witchdoctor, but there was no power in his cure. Next, she visits a famous televangelist where what he lacks in true spiritual power he makes up for by shouting and flailing his arms about. Yet there is no cure for her blindness there. Finally, she visits her local community church where the parishioners and the pastor gather around her and pray together to God. It is there that she receives healing and all the people rejoice, the blind girl most of all. The drama ended with a beautiful song performed together by all the cast members.
VOH Mongu: Nutrition Lessons
At the VOH Mongu Save A Life feeding program, we were blessed to have Rachel from Mother Earth Ministries in Kaande come and share her knowledge with us!
Rachel taught the mothers how to use local vegetables such as Moringa, which is high in vitamins and minerals. All of the mothers were excited to learn new recipes and ways to cook vegetables from their back gardens. It was great to partner with another organization within Mongu and we hope to continue partnering with such incredible organizations to better serve the people from the surrounding community.
VOH Mwanza: Visit from the Executive Director
Last week at VOH Mwanza, we welcomed Executive Director Uncle Sergio for a couple of days to provide some teaching. We talked about culture and communication and also conflict resolution. It was a valuable time of teaching and we appreciate Sergio’s interactive style of teaching, which gets everyone involved.
The staff had a great time and we all learned so much about how we interact with one another.
VOH Zimbabwe: Multipurpose Hall
This new multipurpose hall at VOH Zimbabwe will serve the school during the week as well as Hope Community Church on Sundays. Walls are coming up slowly but surely!
