VOH Kenya: New Shoes!

04.01.2016 KENYA

The children at VOH Kenya are receiving new school shoes! Their feet are getting measured carefully to ensure each child receives a pair of shoes that will fit them well. With all of the walking and playing they do, new shoes are a necessity every so often. Thanks to our faithful friends and supporters for making this possible.

VOH Burundi: Interpersonal Training

04.01.2016 BURUNDI

Last week at VOH Burundi we held training sessions on Interpersonal Relationships for all VOH Staff and volunteers. When colleagues are happy and have good relationships with one another this also impacts the quality of their work and interaction with the children in their care.

People, especially those taking care of children, who are offering hope to others, need to feel safe, secure and full of hope themselves before they can effectively pass it on. In reality, we give to others what we have and what we are.

The training sessions included exercises aimed at helping each of the participants discover their personality type and we quickly learned we are all different. Each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses. We need to always work together so our strengths, when combined, result in the best possible care of our children.

We were blessed to have Mrs. Florence Munezero, one of the VOH Burundi board members, facilitate this training. Everyone participated with enthusiasm and the goal is for the children in our care to be further blessed as a result of the things we learned.

VOH Chongwe: Child Protection Training

04.01.2016 CHONGWEThis week at VOH Chongwe we conducted a refresher course on our Child Protection Policy led by Carol, our Child Protection Officer. One of the core values of Villages of Hope Africa is that we value all children and believe every child has the right to protection from all forms of abuse. It is, for this reason, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for every child under our care by ensuring our staff, volunteers, and children follow our written Child Protection Policy.

Included in the training was a time with the kids where Carol reviewed how best they can protect themselves from all forms of abuse. She also explained what their individual responsibilities are to themselves and to one another.

VOH Kitwe: Church Service

04.01.2016 KITWE

This past Sunday at church it was thrilling to see the VOH Kitwe children sitting at the front, mixed with other children from the surrounding community. After the time of singing and prayers, the children then left to attend a children’s program during the remaining service time. In these photos, they are participating in the service and being prayed for before dispersing for their children’s church program.

VOH Malawi: Knitting04.01.2016 MALAWI

The creativity of our children here at VOH Malawi never ceases to amaze. Mercy is in grade 7 and always good for a laugh. She has fun built into her very makeup and if there’s no fun happening she can be counted on to get it started.

In these pictures, you can see her creative juices at work as she knits herself a new belt. The lack of proper knitting needles hasn’t stopped her. If you look closely you can see her running a perfect stitch using the empty inserts from 2 Bic pens. Amazing!

Mercy has admirable dexterity with her fabricated knitting needles and when she’s done you’d be amazed by the quality. Mercy isn’t the only one at the Village who is an excellent knitter; when she is finished her current project, Mercy is quick to pass her homemade needles around so each knitter can take a turn!

VOH Mongu: Caring for Vulnerable Children

04.01.2016 MONGU

There are thousands of orphaned, vulnerable, and homeless children in Western Zambia where VOH Mongu is located. This is largely the result of the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. The plight of the orphans is further exaggerated by the high incidence of child abuse and desperate poverty in the area. At Village of Hope we are thankful, we are able to make a difference in the lives of children in our immediate community by providing them with education, nutrition, healthcare, and shelter. We would like to thank all of our friends who faithfully support our ministry at VOH Mongu, allowing us to bring hope into the lives of these young children.

VOH Mwanza: Easter Break

04.01.2016 MWANZAThe children at VOH Mwanza are currently on their Easter break. During their two weeks off from school they are keeping busy at home playing and helping their house mom. Several of the children are helping make the areas around their home look even better by planting new gardens. They will look beautiful when they’re done. When everyone lends a hand we keep our homes looking great!

VOH Zimbabwe: Childhood Development Workshop

04.01.2016 ZIMBABWEThe school at VOH Zimbabwe held an Early Childhood Development workshop with those working in the infants department of the school. While their teachers were attending the workshop, we held a special sports day for our youngest students. It’s so good to see the young ones having such fun!

Latest Blog: “Where Are They Now: Grace”

“VOH Kitwe was happy to receive three student teachers who grew up in the children’s homes at Village of Hope. Mapalo, Mercy, and Eliacy came to us when they were very young. After completing grade 12 each was reunited with living extended family members…” (read more)
