VOH Malawi: Helping the Community
Since September of last year, VOH Malawi has worked hard to strengthen our relationship with the Village of Kauma–one of the neediest communities in our area. For a number of years, children from this community have walked all the way to our facilities to participate in our programs. In an effort to make our programs more accessible to more children, especially those who are young and unable to walk too far, we have been meeting with community leaders to see how we can help. On Saturday afternoon, we had the honor of meeting with approximately 40 community leaders to share our vision. Among the hosts were village chiefs, pastors, and a sheik from one of the 3 mosques in the area. The result of the meeting was an open-armed invitation to come and minister to their orphaned and vulnerable children, of which they have many. Please pray for God to continue to open doors for the establishment of this VOH Kauma location.
VOH Burundi: Providing Nutrition
VOH Burundi is happy to report healthy improvements in our children’s lives. Before being under our care, these beautiful children weren’t always getting nutritious food at their homes, or breakfast before coming to school because their guardians couldn’t afford the cost of providing it for them. Nevertheless, VOH Burundi changed that by offering them a very nutritive porridge every morning.
Our feeding program has really impacted the health of the children and we are so happy when we look at them now, as we remember how they were before knowing us. We always thank all of our sponsors who make this possible.
VOH Chongwe: Welcome Eneless and Regina
VOH Chongwe is happy to welcome two young sisters into our children’s homes. Last week Eneless and Regina were rescued by social welfare from a negligent and abusive living condition. The two girls were already attending our school and social welfare intervened when their circumstances were reported. They have now found love and care from the housemothers and the other children living with them in their new home.
VOH Kenya: Meet Milka
Meet Milka, a 6-year-old girl that attends VOH Kenya’s preschool class. She is a happy girl, always with a smile. She’s a sweet little girl with a soft, kind spirit. Although walking is a great difficulty for her, she is so determined to move around independently with the assistance of her walker and occasional help from her teacher.
Milka’s father passed away, and her mother struggles to provide for her needs. At VOH Kenya, she receives a stable, quality education including special individualized care. She receives onsite medical care from the school’s nurse and a healthy, nutritious lunch every day at school. Without the help of Canadian donors, we would not be able to provide the help she needs to succeed in this world. We are blessed to be a part of Milka’s success story.
VOH Kitwe: Health Check
Every year at VOH Kitwe, like all VOH locations, we take the weights and measurement of all of our children. This exercise is done to ensure the children are growing at a normal rate and are healthy. The weights and measurements are then recorded in the children’s files and compared with the previous year’s information. If there is a drastic change noted, the child is put on observation and, if necessary, an enhanced nutritious diet.
VOH Mongu: Music Lessons
The children at the VOH Mongu School love learning about recorders and string instruments in their music classes. These classes are taught every week by Debbie and Susie Radloff, permanent missionaries in Mongu. Through these lessons, we are continually seeing the children’s passion and love for music grow. We greatly encourage teaching the arts at VOH Mongu and are excited to see the great musicians and artists that are going to come out of these classes!
VOH Mwanza: Farming Update
At VOH Mwanza, we continue growing our farm using it to help supply the needs of the Village and generate extra income. Unfortunately, last year the weather wasn’t on our side and we didn’t do as well as we had hoped. However, at the end of 2015 and into 2016 we took a leap of faith with our rice crop and decided to plant 12 acres — the most we have ever planted, trusting for enough rain. God has provided and we have had a great few months of rain and our rice crops are growing very well. The first couple acres should be ready to harvest next month!
VOH Zimbabwe: Kitchen Supply Donation
Recently, the children’s homes at VOH Zimbabwe were blessed by the church ladies who came and gifted us with kitchen and other home utensils. We are very grateful to the church for the way that they continue to encourage and support all that we are doing at the Village.

“Village of Hope helped me a lot. It helped me academically, spiritually, and physically. Firstly, it helped me in the way I see myself today. When I first came to VOH I couldn’t read well, but through the help of VOH now I know how to read and write and even speak good English…” (read more)
