VOH Chongwe: Child Protection Training

4.mar.2016 CHONGWE

This past week, VOH Chongwe hosted a training workshop on Child Protection conducted by the Tehila Organization. Representatives from VOH Kitwe, Mongu, and Zimbabwe took part in the workshops. The focus was on providing a safe and secure environment for the children in our care.

At VOH Africa, we value all children and believe every child has the right to protection from all forms of abuse. We ensure that every staff member and volunteer follows our written Child Protection Policy and that every child and youth is taught to understand the protection the policy provides for them.

VOH Burundi: Cooking Practise

Last week we shared about James Smith visiting. James is a volunteer with a Canadian organization, and he taught us how to source vegetables, dry them, and produce meals from the end product. This week, the next step involved our lead team going for a test lunch together. We had a great time together and are happy to report the meal was delicious! This new training is going to help us further improve our feeding program.

VOH Kenya: New Preschool Class

At VOH Kenya, we welcome our new baby class students that started at Village of Hope Academy in January. They are a class of 15 preschoolers, aged 3-5 years old. There are 6 girls and 9 boys in the class. In this picture, one little girl is leading her class in saying English words together by pointing at familiar pictures with English words. It’s a fun way for the children to actively participate in the learning process and practice leadership at a young age.

VOH Kitwe: New Playground Equipment

At VOH Kitwe, we are grateful for the new playground equipment donated to our preschool classes. This new equipment gives the children a chance to develop their bodies and have fun together during their recess time.

VOH Malawi: Marie Miller Visits

VOH Malawi recently received a visit from Canadian evangelist Marie Miller. Marie and her team took time out of their busy schedule to speak to our staff and to visit the children in our children’s homes. The preschoolers were thrilled by their visit and greeted them enthusiastically by jumping, waving, and crying “How are you!?” at the top of their lungs. We were all very blessed to have these ladies come and spend \ time with us at the Village.

VOH Mongu: Rains!

Mongu is getting amazing rain recently and it is such a blessing for the planted crops at our Save a Life center! The ladies working at the center worked hard planting seeds over the December holidays and we have been hoping for abundant rain to see these crops flourish.

Due to the recent abundance of rain, we were able to harvest lots of maize this last week and bless the mothers of the feeding program with some to take home for their children. We are very excited to continue growing our garden so we can send more and more yummy treats to the children in our program.

VOH Mwanza: Feeding Program

At the VOH Mwanza School, Mama Suzanna (cook) and Rahel (her assistant) together with the house mothers help ensure our children eat a healthy snack and hot lunch every single day. They work hard to prepare tasty food that is also nutritious so our kids get the nutrition they need to study well in class. We appreciate all the hard work that goes into feeding about 200 children and staff members every day!

Latest Blog: “Empowering Youth in Zambia”

“At the Kachimfya Youth Empowerment Program (located at VOH Kitwe) it is our goal to educate, equip, and empower youth with career development, life skills, and the arts. We provide daily classes free of charge to vulnerable, impoverished, and orphaned youth. Located on-site at VOH, we are next to Racecourse, one of the poorest communities in Kitwe, Zambia…” (read more)
