Community Donations: This Week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Donations from the Community

30.10.2015 CHONGWEThis week VOH Chongwe was blessed to have a group of ladies from one of the local churches come and bless us with groceries. Village Director Shaline Mwenya was pleased to receive the gift of groceries from the ladies on behalf of the moms and children living in homes at the Village. We thank God for the positive response and support we receive within the Chongwe community!

90% Pass Rate!

30.10.2015 BURUNDIVOH Burundi is located in the heart of a high-density community in the Capital City of Bujumbura named Bwiza. Although some of our children live in children or youth homes, most are living in the community under the care of Guardians.

VOH Burundi is very committed to developing a strong relationship with those caregivers. This past week, we had a meeting with them to discuss together the last school year and to plan this new school year, which began in September.

Despite the crisis in Burundi, our children succeeded with a 90% pass rate!

Welcome, Duggans

30.10.2015 KENYAWe are happy to welcome the Duggans to the VOH Kenya family! Jamie and Misty Duggan, along with their four children, came from Ontario, Canada with a passion to work with VOH Africa and help children in Kenya. Jamie is serving as Project Manager, helping with new building projects and maintaining current structures. As Administrative Assistant, Misty is helping with the many administrative tasks that are critical to ensuring that everything runs smoothly at the Village.

Child Protection at VOH Kitwe

30.10.2015 KITWE

Recently at VOH Kitwe we conducted our annual Child Protection training with the staff and children. In this segment, the Mothers and selected teenagers were in the session where George, the Child protection officer, was facilitating the training. It was a wonderful time of learning from one another.

The attendees were later placed in groups where they were encouraged to express their points of view freely. We, like the other VOH locations, have proven that children love to be given a chance to be heard.

The training went very well and the knowledge gained has given those in attendance the ability to make informed decisions in relation to their protection and how they interact with one another. As representatives they will share what they have learned with the rest of the Village family.

VOH Malawi Visitor

30.10.2015 MALAWIVOH Malawi was excited to welcome Pastor Michael Fess from Mapleview Community Church in Barrie, Ontario. Pastor Michael is a professional videographer and spent 10 days video taping and photographing the various activities at the Village. He even brought a flying drone camera, which thrilled the kids beyond belief!

VOH Mongu Grade 7 Exams

30.10.2015 MONGUFor the first time in our school’s history at VOH Mongu, we have students who will be writing the Grade 7 government exam. Our first Grade 7 class is ready to show what they know as they write an exam in each of the 6 subject areas.

The students will write the exams at the nearby Katongo Primary School with other Grade 7 students around Mongu.

We are proud of our students and the hard work they have put into their schooling!

VOH Mwanza Graduation

30.10.2015 MWANZALast week we celebrated with our graduates at VOH Mwanza. We had five Class 7 grads and two Form 2 grads. They had a ceremony at their school and celebrated with friends and family from the Village and from school. We are very proud of all of our graduates and are excited to see them continue to grow and learn as they move on with their studies; some entering high school and a couple entering pre-college years (Forms 5 and 6).

They have all worked hard and will now enjoy a bit of a break until the new year starts–although they will still be keeping up with their studies

National Exams

30.10.2015 ZIMBABWEVOH Zimbabwe was happy to receive funds through a local donor to help us buy school backpacks for those living in our children’s homes!
