Cultural Dance at VOH Kitwe: This week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Cultural Dance at VOH Kitwe

KITWE

Zambia is a multi-lingual nation and has a rich diverse culture. Our Zambian Motto is ‘One Zambia, One Nation.’ VOH Kitwe encourages our children to embrace our dynamic culture. It was an exciting time for our children and caregivers to perform once again over Skype for a live audience of cultural dancers in Edmonton, Alberta.

Our children showcased different cultural dances and songs and then the Canadian dancers performed for them as well. It was exciting to do this all live over skype, bringing two nations together!

Sanitation Training at VOH Chongwe

CHONGWE

Training and workshops at VOH Chongwe have continued. This week the Children, staff and caregivers received training in sanitation and hygiene, which was conducted by experts who worked hand in hand with our nurse.

During the workshop the Children, Caregivers, and staff were taught how to keep their bodies clean, the importance of good sanitation and hygiene, and how they can live in ultimate good health and how to keep their environment disease free.

We are grateful for the positive response we received from everyone, both those who presented the workshop and those who participated.

VOH Kenya Welcomes Kennedy!

KENYA

VOH Kenya is happy to welcome Kennedy to the staff family. He will be our new librarian. Kennedy is very passionate about reading and has a real heart for children. He was a huge help while setting the library up and deciding on library rules. Kennedy will have a chance to supervise every class at VOH Kenya and help the children get to know their way around the library.

Kennedy will also be teaching the new grade 9 class part time at the school. We are grateful for our warm, passionate, and loving staff at VOH Kenya!

Games at VOH Malawi

MALAWI

It’s recess at Lilongwe Hope Academy at VOH Malawi and the kids are hard at play. Using a ball they’ve made from plastic shopping bags and twine along with an empty water bottle, they are playing a game called “Fly.” Two children stand about 10m apart and one stands in the middle. The kids then try to hit the one dodging in the middle. If the child in the middle can catch the ball they will then throw it as far as they can. While the throwers fetch the ball, the one on the middle tries to fill the water bottle full of sand. Once it is full they dump it out and start again. Each full bottle scores 10 points for their team!

Giving Shoes at VOH Mongu

MONGU

There are about twenty to thirty people in the nearby community surrounding VOH Mongu who are too old to find food for themselves and have no families or their family is unable to help them. Because of this, the Save a Life Center started a new feeding program several months ago for the elderly.

The women in the Feeding Program, were so excited to receive brand new sandals this week. Many had nothing at all to wear before receiving this gift. They sang a song in celebration when they were given the sandals. What a blessing to be able to respond to needs and see such joy and thankfulness in return!

Church at VOH Mwanza

MWANZA

At VOH Mwanza we are very happy to welcome Pastor Ahmed and his wife Audrey to the Village; they are such a wonderful couple. They love people – especially young people. We are excited to see how God will continue to use them among us as we partner together to start a church that will serve the Village but also the community around us.

We held two services last week where Pastor Ahmed shared about God’s purpose for our lives and the importance of finding out what that is. “You haven’t really started living if you don’t know God’s purpose for your life.”

We ended the second service with a time of prayer and Pastor Ahmed and Audrey prayed for anyone who wanted prayer. It was a powerful time and we continue to pray that He would lead us and guide us as we move forward.
