Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...
Farming at VOH Malawi
With the rainy season now upon us, we have a farm bursting with life at VOH Malawi. We have over nine acres planted with maize and they are sprouting remarkably fast.
As is true the world over, the weeds are also sprouting just as fast, that is why you will find our VOH families out in the fields in the mornings and afternoons pulling the weeds and cultivating the rows in order to protect our maize.
Last year’s crop fed the entire village for 7 months! We are anticipating another great harvest this year. Being out in the fields together as a family ensures that the children learn how to grow their own crops. The chief gardener and his staff are also working diligently to keep the weeds from choking out the maize.
Excellent team work!
New Security Guard for VOH Burundi
VOH Burundi would like to introduce Moses, our new security guard. As VOH Burundi is expanding, we now have two separate entrances in the township of Bwiza where we are located. Bwiza Center 1 we use for the feeding program, tutoring, and daily Bible classes and now, the new Bwiza Center 2 is a boys’ home.
Due to our location, it is very important to have a gatekeeper to secure both Bwiza Centers and we are happy to welcome Moses to fulfill this task.
VOH Chongwe Students Prepare for School
The new school year has begun at VOH Chongwe and students are happy to go into their new grades. This week students took time to clear and clean the area surrounding the school in order to ensure we start the new year with a safe, clean, and a well-maintained environment.
Lead Team Meetings at VOH Kenya
This week the VOH Kenya Lead Team had their first management meeting of the year. These meetings happen once a month and every department head has the opportunity to highlight and discuss events, concerns, and questions, and to update the rest of the team on their departments.
Areas that are discussed are the school, the clinic, administration, child welfare, sponsorship, the homes, supplies and security.
It takes many people to run a healthy village and unity among those people.
VOH Kitwe Preschool Expands
The new school year has begun at VOH Kitwe and we are happy to receive new pupils for both our morning and afternoon preschool classes. The children are excited to be in class for the first time, starting a long journey of life in education.
As Village of Hope, we exist to give hope for today, tomorrow, and eternity; therefore these children have entered our gates for preparation to a better life, spiritually, physically, and economically. We are forever thankful for all our friends and sponsors that have made this blessing possible!
Fun Games at VOH Mwanza!
Between Christmas and New Years at VOH Mwanza we planned some fun activities for the kids! There was a soccer tournament for all ages, a field day for the little kids with fun activities like three-legged race, relay race, tug of war and sack races and a scavenger hunt for the teens!
The winning team members each got their own chocolate bar, which was a special treat. It was such a fun week for everyone before heading back to school.
Meet VOH Zimbabwe’s Newest Family Members
VOH Zimbabwe is happy to welcome two new boys to the Village. Social services brought them to us yesterday after the children’s home where they had been living had to be shut down. We were happy that we had space for them in one of our children’s homes and they are already setting in well with their new family and are thankful to be back in school.
