Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...
Social Welfare Visits VOH Chongwe
All Village of Hope locations work very closely with the local Social Welfare and other governmental departments. Regular reports are submitted to the various government agencies on the activities of the Villages. From time-to-time they stop by unannounced to do spot checks, and last week VOH Chongwe received one of those visits.
The officials from the Ministry of Community Development and the Mother and Child Health Department of Social Welfare came by to inspect and they told us they were very happy with the way the village is upholding the Government required standards. They also commented on how good it was to see how healthy and happy the children are looking!
VOH Burundi Prepare for Christmas
Last week at VOH Burundi’s staff meeting the focus was on preparations for how Christmas day would be celebrated with the children.
Christmas is an important event in children’s lives. They are taught about Jesus, and celebrate together the story of Christ’s birth. Each child will also receive some small gifts that add to making the day a very special one for all.
VOH Kenya Farewell
At the end of the school year, VOH Kenya had a farewell party for the Hope Academy Head Teacher, Wycliffe, who has been offered an amazing teaching opportunity that will require him to move away from the area where VOH is located.
Wycliffe has been a dedicated, hard working, and loving teacher and Head Teacher for Hope Academy over the last several years and has played a valuable role in the student’s and staff’s lives.
VOH Kenya gave Wycliffe 2 goats to take home as a thank you for his dedication over the last years. He will be greatly missed, but VOH Kenya is praying for him as he takes up this new position and wishes him all the best.
VOH Kitwe Welcomes New House Mom
Last week the VOH Kitwe staff, along with the moms and children from all of the houses, gathered in the youth hall to bid farewell to Mother Agness who has served for 10 years.
Mother Agness received a farewell cake, card, and small gift in thanks for her time of service at the Village. The children in Mother Agness’ home have already adapted very well to Priscah, their new house mother, because they know her very well. Priscah has been a part of the VOH Kitwe family for many years, serving as an Auntie in the children’s home.
The farewell also served as a time of welcoming Priscah into her new role as house mother, which is a very noble service.
VOH Malawi Plumbing
For the past ten years, before coming to VOH Malawi with his wife Renatta and their 4 children, Jef Walton, the new VOH Malawi director, was a plumber in Canada.
Recently Jef was able to use his plumbing skills to fix the water supply to the VOH Malawi school. VOH Malawi maintenance manager, Steven, was close at hand to help and Jef was able to show him how to do this type of plumbing repair to help increase his knowledge and ability to help around the Village.
Cleanup at VOH Mwanza!
It was clean up time last week at VOH Mwanza! Everyone from the youngest to the oldest pitched in to clean up the all around the Village and make it beautiful before Christmas time. There was lots of slashing grass, weeding, sweeping, and picking up garbage. Everyone did their part and now the Village looks beautiful–just in time for our Christmas celebrations.
