Birthday Celebrations at VOH Mwanza!
Children in Tanzania often don’t know when they were born, so birthday celebrations are not very common. At VOH Mwanza, we do our best to make each birthday significant. Each VOH home has a list of birth dates and when a child’s birthday arrives, he or she receives a birthday cake! Everyone joins in singing the Happy Birthday song and cheering for the birthday boy/girl.
We are teaching the children they are special and so we value the day they were born. Some homes are blessed to have even more than one birthday on the same day – that means double the cake!
Meet Bechou
Meet Bechou, the newest child to come under the care of VOH Burundi. Her mother was a young lady when she gave birth to her and the father’s whereabouts are unknown. Recently Bechou’s mother got remarried and her new husband refused to care for Bechou and her brother because he is not their father. The mother was forced to give the two children, Bechou and her brother Kessy to their grandmother to take care of but unfortunately the Grandmother is very old, poor, and sick.
By providing for the children’s education, making sure they have a nutritious meal every day, and offering health care when needed, Village of Hope has brought hope back not only to the two children but also to their grandmother who was desperate for some help in raising her grandchildren. We are happy and thankful to see this big smile on Bechou’s face!
VOH Chongwe Multipurpose Building
VOH Chongwe is happy to see their Multi-purpose building almost coming to completion. The building will be used to conduct Chapel services, school assemblies, and also as a shelter during the feeding program. The structure is already adding extra hope and beauty to the Village.
New Library for VOH Kenya
VOH Kenya recently built a new library, but we were missing one thing: books! The Missions Committee of the Pentecostal Evangel Church in Powell River, BC, put on a garage sale that focused on raising funds for library books, posters, learning resources, book shelves, desks, and chairs for the library!
Over $3000.00 was raised as well as over 100 beautiful quality books donated! VOH Kenya is so grateful for the support, time, and effort of everyone involved and the generosity of everyone who gave – We look forward to many happy and educational hours of reading ahead!
New Playground at VOH Kitwe
Construction of a new playground at VOH Kitwe has just been completed! The excitement level was huge as the children gathered to play on the new playground for the first time! The children and their mothers are very happy to have this additional playground provided for them.
With over 900 children passing through Village of Hope Kitwe each day, we need lots of space and facilities that give the children the opportunity to have fun while at the same time benefitting from the physical activity that these play structures provide.
Save a Life Center Micro-Business Training
VOH Mongu’s Save a Life Centre works hard to ensure that once the families are discharged from the program they have a sustainable income to continue providing food for their children. This is done by providing a micro-business loan where each family is given a certain amount of money to choose what they would like to start selling in their communities. This grandmother, who is caring for her very malnourished grandchild, was delighted to take a trip to the harbour and choose which fish she would like to begin selling.
Helping the care-givers establish a small micro-business encourages the families to develop good business skills and provides hope and a brighter future for the families and children.
Dentist Visits VOH Zimbabwe
This week VOH Zimbabwe was blessed by a visit from dentist, Dr Horan, who donated 100 toothbrushes and dental floss boxes for our children. The children enjoyed visiting with Dr. Horan and even had fun while they learned more about proper dental hygiene!
