This Week: Showcasing our Talents

This week at VOH Africa, we attended a trade fair, wrote mock exams, and showcased our talents!

VOH Bulale: Clay Modelling

Recently at VOH Bulale, our young students are learning how to make models out of clay.

During these lessons, each student receives a ball of clay soil, a set of simple tools like sticks and stones, and a collection of pictures featuring animals, objects, and people they recognize. The task? To bring their favourite images to life by sculpting them from clay!

With enthusiasm and a burst of imagination, the pupils dive into their clay, experimenting with different shapes, sizes, and textures. They create detailed models, each one reflecting their unique choices and artistic vision. As they work, they engage in lively conversations with their peers and seek guidance from their teacher, which nurtures communication, teamwork, and a creative spirit.

This hands-on activity is more than just fun; it’s a vital part of their development. By manipulating the clay, the students enhance their fine motor skills. Additionally, the process sharpens their cognitive abilities, promoting problem-solving and critical thinking.

Ultimately, this activity allows these young learners to explore their creativity and develop essential skills in an enjoyable and interactive way.

VOH Bwiza: Talent Show

At the end of each school year, the nursery students at our VOH Bwiza Centre get to display their talents at our end-of-year ceremony. This week, we admired a traditional dance number from the children before the announcement of their results.

We are delighted that, in addition to their academic lessons, the children also develop their talents outside of the classroom, allowing them to flourish emotionally and socially.

In addition, through activities like dance, the children have a chance to learn more about Burundian culture and celebrate it!

VOH Chongwe: Girls Win Soccer Game

This week at VOH Chongwe, our third and fourth graders enjoyed playing soccer as part of their physical education lesson. As is always the case when children have an opportunity to play, they are so excited and put all their energy into the game.

The girls’ team emerged as winners, scoring ten goals, while the boys’ team managed only five goals. The girls were so happy to have won the game!

The children always treasure these moments of play as they work in teams to achieve common goals. Even when they seemingly lose or fail to achieve their expected goal, they are encouraged by the fact that they made an effort.

Well done, girls!

VOH Kitwe: Trade Fair

Last week, Zambia held its 54th International Trade Fair under the theme “Unlocking Economic Potential Through Collaboration and Partnerships.” We are thrilled that our grade 12 students (accompanied by their teachers) were able to attend, and they loved it!

During their trip, the students interacted with various professionals who were hosting information booths about their work.

They visited the Road Transport and Safety Agency booth, where they were taught the importance of road safety and following traffic rules.

They also visited the State House booth, where they learned the functions of the State House.

The students greatly appreciated all the knowledge they gathered from the trade fair. In addition, both the students and their teachers are grateful for all of our donors who make attending events like this possible!

VOH Malawi: Celebrating Chisomo’s Graduation

This week at VOH Malawi, we are delighted to celebrate Chisomo’s graduation with a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Food Security.

Chisomo is one of the brightest and most engaging young women we’ve had the pleasure of working with. Her extroverted personality has always brought energy and positivity to those around her, allowing her to connect with people of all ages.

After completing her studies at VOH, Chisomo interned with us, assisting teachers in the classroom. Her ability to connect with the young children and contribute meaningfully was highly appreciated by everyone.

We are thrilled about Chisomo’s achievement and confident she will excel in her future career.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to her sponsors, who supported her throughout her educational journey. Chisomo’s success is an inspiration to many of our children, who now see her as a role model.

VOH Mongu: Mock Exams

Recently, our Grades 7, 9, and 12 students completed their mock exams. These exams serve as an essential preparatory tool, giving students a taste of the exam atmosphere and helping them identify areas that need improvement.

For our Grade 12 students, these exams are particularly vital as they pave the way for their final-year assessments. Grade 9 students, on the other hand, are at a pivotal point as they transition into the final stage of their high school education. Our youngest group, the Grade 7 students, have shown remarkable resilience, and, for many of them, this was their first experience with a more structured examination environment. Their positive performance is a commendable achievement.

For all three groups, the positive outcome of these mock exams has instilled a great deal of confidence in them, reassuring them that their hard work and dedication are paying off!

VOH Mwanza: Gardening

At VOH Mwanza, we care deeply about our children’s health, which is why we have a special garden. Every day, our children enjoy fresh and healthy meals filled with ingredients we’ve grown ourselves, including cabbage, tomatoes, spinach, kale, and more!

In addition to tasty meals, the garden allows us to provide essential vitamins and nutrients to the children. Gardening is also a vital skill for children to be exposed to and have hands-on experience with.

Our VOH Mwanza garden is more than just a place to grow food; it helps our children live healthier and happier lives!
