VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Congratulations, Yvonne!
At VOH Bwiza, we celebrate Yvonne! It has been wonderful to watch Yvonne grow since she joined our Center in 2010! Yvonne had an interest in auto mechanics and was naturally skilled in working with her hands. We supported her through trade school, and this week we congratulate her on her recent graduation! We appreciate all of the hard work that Yvonne has put into her studies, and we know that there are good things ahead for her! We pray that God opens doors for her so she can start working according to her skills.
VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Meet Milimo
VOH Chongwe would like you to meet Milimo. Milimo joined our family and moved into one of our children’s homes in 2020. He and his brother lost both of their parents, and sadly they did not have a safe place to live. A neighbour saw the conditions they were living in and assisted in having them brought to VOH Chongwe. They are both so happy to have a place they can call home. They are thriving with their new loving VOH family. Milimo likes to draw and paint, and he loves playing soccer. He is hoping to become a doctor when he completes his education. We are so glad these brothers have found happiness again, and we are excited to see what their futures hold!
VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: Sharing Calculators
Recently Fatuma, the Head Teacher of the VOH Luongo school, graciously shared scientific calculators she received from friends in Canada with our school at VOH Kitwe. These calculators are a huge help to our grade 12 students as they prepare for their Government exams. We are confident our students will make good use of them as they prepare for their exams. Thank you, Fatuma, for generously sharing!
VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Distributing Fresh Water!
This week at VOH Luongo, the children who are on school break due to the COVID shut-down here in Zambia were excited to still come to the Center for their daily feeding program and receive some tutorial guidance on the work they are taking home. Thanks to the new borehole we recently installed, the kids could also collect clean water to take home for drinking and cooking. This is the first time some of our kids have used a tap to turn water on and off! Life has drastically improved for the children and their families now that they have a regular water supply nearby.
VOH Malawi Update: Meet Steven
Steven joined VOH Malawi at the beginning of the new school year, and we are glad to have him as part of our school. Steven is a bright, hard-working kid. Whenever he struggles with anything, he goes straight to the teacher for help and then goes home and practices. The next day, he arrives with his work completed, eager for the teacher to check what he has done. Steven enjoys chatting and playing with the other kids at school and spends recess playing with his friends Mphatso, Imran, and Holeck. He is also an excellent soccer player! He says his favourite foods are rice, beans, and fish. It is great to have Steven as a part of our VOH Malawi family!
VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: Vaccination Program
In Burundi, we now have a vaccination program for children who are under five years old. The Burundian Government Ministry of Health developed this program to protect children against many different diseases that are sometimes incurable if contracted. At VOH Maramvya, our children were recently vaccinated as part of this program. In addition, they received general health check-ups, which we do every three months so we can be sure they are healthy. We thank the government for making this vital care possible!
VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Mutende and Martin Get Involved
VOH Mongu would like you to meet two of our outstanding students: Mutende, grade 11, and his friend Martin, who is in grade 9. These are two incredible boys who love to be involved with the activities at our Hope kids church services. One of the things Mutende and Martin have in common is they both love to sew! They like to get their hands busy with sewing clothes for kids who live in our children’s homes here at the Center during their free time. Last week they tailored beautiful, colourful skirts and trousers for our Hope Kids praise and dance team. They also helped choreograph their dance and made a music video of their composed song. It is incredible to see how our kids love to work together as a family and help each other discover and grow their talents. We know God has huge plans for each one of them!
VOH Zimbabwe Update: Peter Reunites with Family
VOH Zimbabwe would like you to meet Peter, an 8-year-old boy who came to VOH Zimbabwe in 2018 from the streets of Harare. About a year ago, the Department of Social Services found Peter’s grandparents in a rural area about 200 km from our VOH Center, and they were reunited! We recently paid Peter a visit at his home to see how he was doing and bring him school supplies and Hope Packs. We were thrilled to see how well Peter is doing and how happy he is for being reunited with his family. Peter is growing into a confident young man, and we remain hopeful that he will continue to develop well in every area of his life.
