This Week: Sharing the Harvest!

VOH Bulale (Tanzania): Meet Cesilia

VOH Bulale wants you to meet Cesilia, a bright and happy 8-year-old student who loves school here at VOH! Cesilia is currently in grade two. She tells everyone that she is looking forward to growing up because she wants to become a teacher, just like her class teacher Betty. During playtime, she pretends with her friends to be a teacher. During class, she enjoys being the classroom leader, assisting her teacher and her fellow students. Cesilia also loves reading books. Her favourite is one called “The Birthday Party.”

VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Appreciating the Women of VOH!

In honour of International Women’s Day, VOH Bwiza would like to thank all of the ladies working hard to ensure our children are well cared for. We celebrate these women because they are wonderful gifts to us at VOH Bwiza! They are committed to the work they are doing, and they do it with all their heart. It is not enough to be skilled; it also requires a big heart. These ladies do a fantastic job, and our children are happy because of them!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Harvesting!

It’s harvest time again for VOH Chongwe, and we are so happy to see our children acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to grow vegetables. At the moment, we have a beautiful harvest of good healthy vegetables, including green beans! The kids, gardeners, and teachers are all so happy to see their hard work’s continued success! We can now sell green beans and other green vegetables to the staff and the community and put the funds back into our garden projects. It brings us so much joy to see God blessing our efforts as we teach and care for our children.

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: VOH Graduate Donates Food

This past week at VOH Kitwe, George, one of our former students, came by for a visit and donated Breakfast Mealie Meal. George grew up in one of the communities near VOH Kitwe and attended our school from preschool through high school. We were so touched that he took time from his busy schedule to come and make this donation. He mentioned that he saw on social media how we support the children and their families during COVID-19 with our Hope Packs campaign, and he wanted to be part of the blessing. We are so grateful to see so many VOH children growing up and wanting to give back to their VOH family!

VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Maize Harvest!

This week at VOH Luongo, we harvested our maize crop, planted last year in December. We are so happy we had such a good yield! We shared the maize with our children; each child received enough to take home for themselves and their families. The parents/guardians were so grateful for the kind gesture shown to them. We will use the remaining maize for our feeding program.

VOH Malawi Update: New Ablution Block Progress

This week at VOH Malawi, Kumbali construction handed over the ablution block to the school. We are so excited about this expansion! The ablution has separate girls’ and boys’ sections, each with toilets and handwashing stations. The administration building is well on its way now, too. It’s incredible to see our VOH Center taking shape with buildings coming up one by one! We thank God and our donors for being with us each step of the way.

VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: Planning Workshops

At VOH Maramvya, we regularly hold meetings and workshops for our staff and volunteers to ensure we provide the best possible care to the children. We want our center to serve as an example in our community. In these gatherings, we always take the opportunity to remind ourselves that COVID-19 continues to be a health challenge that we must take seriously. We remind everyone that it is our responsibility to take it seriously and follow all health and safety measures that are in place.

VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Fun and Games!

Once school finishes each day at VOH Mongu, we make sure there is time for fun and games for the kids who live in the children’s homes at our center. We love seeing our kids have fun playing together on lovely afternoons like we enjoyed last week. The kids enjoy spending time together, playing games, and interacting with one another. On this particular afternoon, the girls did some dancing while some of the boys played on a homemade pool table. It is such a blessing to see so much happiness and hearts full of joy come out of our kids here at VOH!

VOH Zimbabwe Update: Chickens for Sale!

Chickens for sale in Zimbabwe! After completing his national Grade 11 exams, Knowledge and his two brothers embarked on a chicken rearing project. They raised their first batch in late 2020, which yielded a good return. As they move into adulthood, they have to start thinking about putting what they’ve learned to work. Rearing chickens will help them put food on the table. We are so proud of their hard work and success!
