Expanding to Bulale: this week at VOH Africa

Welcome to our weekly news roundup! Here we share stories from each of our Villages about our Programs, celebrations, children, and staff. If you’d like to receive these updates via email, please subscribe to our newsletter.

Mwanza: Expanding to Bulale!

VOH Mwanza is excited about our new outreach in an area called Bulale. We are getting ready to launch a pre-school and nutrition program very soon!

Recently, while we had a team visiting from Canada, we held an orientation day for all of the children that are starting the program later this month and their caregivers. They were able to come to the site for a day, try out the new playground equipment, see their classrooms, and get a tour.

They also received a nice little gift package from the team with school supplies to help get them started. Everyone is very excited about this new beginning!

Burundi: Alphonse’s Story

VOH Burundi would like to invite our friends to rejoice with us about the amazing changes in Alphonse’s life! Alphonse was abandoned by his mother. She left him with a friend and never came back. The friend then abandoned him with the neighbour who was a kind person but sadly couldn’t afford to care for him.

She applied for Alphonse to be cared for by VOH Burundi and we offered him shelter at the Village and we surrounded him with the love and care that he had not received since his birth.

Today, Alphonse is a happy and brilliant student in primary school and he has lots of friends! We are thankful to God for bringing him from where he was to where he is today and we are excited to see His wonderful plans for this precious life!

Chongwe: Discipleship Program

VOH Chongwe continues to bring hope to children in need in our community. One of the ways we do this is through our discipleship program that was pioneered by our Executive Director Sergio Bersaglio.

The children are led to know God through reading the Bible, group discussions, and hands-on lessons that include field trips that help illustrate what they have read in the Bible. We thank our staff for making this program a success as we help our children grow on their spiritual journey.

Kitwe: Grocery Donation!

This past week, women from Kitwe Central Church were excited to visit our children at VOH and to bring a gift of groceries with them. One of the visitors came along to encourage the children and mothers. We are encouraged to see that churches are coming alongside to help support our work!

Malawi: Kids’ Church!

Every Friday afternoon at VOH Malawi kids from all over Kauma join us for kids church. They come for the fun, for the singing and dancing. They come for the friendship and the love we show. They also come for the cookies we give out after the program! For some of them it might be the only treat they get in a week and we’re happy to be part of that.

Keep praying with us that God’s love and the Gospel message will fill their hearts with joy!

Mongu: School Health Week

Last week was School Health Week at VOH Mongu! We have school health week at our medical clinic once each term in order to keep the children at our school as healthy as possible. During Health Week every child in our school gets their ears, eyes, weights, heights, and overall health checked by our amazing VOH Clinic staff.

This term, we were able to get help and a few extra hands from a volunteer nursing team from UBC Okanagan!

Zimbabwe: Health Checks

One of the ways VOH Zimbabwe ensures we are caring for the whole child is by making sure the children are taken care of physically. We regularly monitor their health and growth and provide vaccinations for children under the age of 5 years old. A healthy child in all aspects is our mission.

We continue to focus on making a difference in our children’s lives and ensuring they have a hope and a future.
