Building Up VOH Kenya: this week at VOH Africa

Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Kenya: Construction Underway!

VOH Kenya is a busy place! Our new high school is coming along with the first block of three classrooms almost complete. Our school washroom block is also looking good with only the septic bed and interior finishes left to construct. Our Project Manager along with the National Director and the construction team have been working diligently to see these and other buildings finish with quality that will last for generations of students to come. Thank you to our generous donors who make these building projects possible.

Burundi: National Exams

VOH Burundi is proud of our young girls and boys in grade 9 who wrote their National exams this past week. They worked really hard and we are expecting good results.

According to the educational system in Burundi, those who do not succeed in grade 9 will not be allowed to repeat the same grade; they will instead be told to pursue technical school if they are financially able.

Although we are happy for those who want to follow the technical school route, we also want to see those who wish to continue on with standard schooling to be given the opportunity to continue and the teachers work very hard with the students to help them get the best results possible.

Chongwe: Writing to Sponsors

24.june.2016.CHONGWE

It’s the beginning of the second school term at VOH Chongwe and once again it is letter writing week for the children. At the beginning of each new term, the children are always excited to communicate with their sponsors and inform them how the school break was and how they did during the first term of school. We appreciate every person who sponsors a VOH child and helps make their schooling and care possible.

Kitwe: Feeding Program Success

VOH Kitwe is happy to report the progress of the children attending our satellite feeding programs. The children we are working with were malnourished and are already responding well to the nutritious meals we provide each day. These same children will also be the first to receive a spot in our 2017 preschool intake. Providing care for their young children has given new hope to their vulnerable mothers and grandmothers who have no regular source of income available.

Malawi: Sport Day

This week at VOH Malawi our Preschool had their sports day. The competition was fierce as they all matched skills in the sack race, rope jump, and other fun competitions!

Mongu: Welcoming Visitors

We love having visitors at VOH Mongu! This week, we had a team come from Arkansas, USA. The group worked on building projects around the homes. They worked on re-painting some of the classrooms and planting new plants around the homes for the children and mothers. They also spent time with the kids at the community school and in the children’s homes, teaching them new games, songs, and dances. The kids loved having them around for the week and we are so grateful for them coming to help out.

Zimbabwe: Family Planning Workshop

Our onsite clinic at VOH Zimbabwe, in partnership with Population Services International, hosted a free family planning workshop for those living in the surrounding communities. The attendance was excellent and many shared their appreciation because often these types of workshops charge fees making them financially impossible to attend.
