Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

VOH Malawi: New Feeding Program Cookhouse
VOH Malawi completed construction of a new cookhouse for our off-site feeding program at The Kauma Project. This simple structure allows our workers and volunteers to cook sheltered from the sun and rain. It also increases the safety of the children who attend each day by preventing them from approaching the hot coals of the Mbaula (charcoal cooker).
The Kauma Project partners with a local church called Kauma Pentecostal Church in the Kauma community and our new structure is located on their property. As a result, the church is also able to use this cooking structure as they
engage in community outreach and church fellowship.
VOH Burundi: Education Planning
This week Delson, the VOH Burundi Director, met with all teachers and volunteers. The goal of the meeting was to reorganize our programs to be more effective during the security struggles we are currently experiencing in the country. The students need to leave the center early in the evening so they arrive safely home before night, which cuts into study time. Therefore, the teachers need to maximize the hours the children are able to attend. We are thankful for all the teachers and their commitment and all of the volunteers for their faithfulness to make things work during these difficult times!
VOH Chongwe: Conservation Farming
We continue taking part in conservation farming at VOH Chongwe and it is harvest time once again. We have a good harvest of vegetables from a small piece of land and the kids and mothers are happy to see the success of their labor and knowledge in farming!
VOH Kenya: Sunday School
At VOH Kenya, we believe children are important to God. Every Sunday the children from VOH and the surrounding community come together to Voice of Hope Church to learn about God and His great love for them. This week, the children were learning about the verse, “Jesus said, Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them.” Matthew 19:14
VOH Kitwe: Donation from Local Church
Recently the ladies from Maranatha Church visited VOH Kitwe. They were excited to interact with the children and mothers. The women encouraged the children that when you are given love, it will make you love others and you will be moved to give and share what you have.
They also brought groceries and had drinks with the children and mothers. One of the children gave a message of thanks and mentioned that the donation will go a long way, while others sang songs.
The Ladies are continuing the ministry, which the late Mrs. Sophie Banda rendered to VOH Kitwe many times. The children and mothers felt loved and cared for.
VOH Mongu: Children’s Homes Update
At VOH Mongu, our Children’s Homes are continuing to grow. We now have Homes #5 and #6 open and love seeing these new families come together. Home #6 now houses our newest mother, Mother Charity, and two teenage boys, Mobi and Samuel. God continues to bless VOH Mongu and we are so excited to continue serving our community more and more!
VOH Mwanza: Visitors from China
The last few weeks at VOH Mwanza we were blessed to have two young ladies visit from China. They helped out at our school on-site and teaching some extra-curricular activities to both our children and staff, who now know some Mandarin! We appreciate all our volunteers and all the various activities and diversity they bring to our Village.
VOH Zimbabwe: Back to School Sports
At VOH Zimbabwe we kicked off the new school year with our inter-house competitions. There was great excitement throughout the Village with the children competing and having a good time together!
