VOH Kenya’s New Library: This Week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

VOH Kenya’s New Library

06.11.2015 KENYAThe children at VOH Kenya are getting full use out of their new library that was completed earlier this year. Class by class, the children take turns to come and read books in the library.

The book selection is vast: science, geography, fiction, non-fiction, about Kenya and all around the world. There’s also a good selection of books about Canada, so the children have the opportunity to learn more about where their Canadian sponsors live.

The children are able to check books out, and take them home for reading as well. Allowing them to take the books home is a valuable tool for teaching responsibility, care for things, and borrowing and returning. They can also read these borrowed books with family members in their homes.

We are grateful for our library!

 Sandra Graduates!

06.11.2015 BURUNDIVOH Burundi is happy to share pictures of Sandra, who recently graduated from high school. Sandra is a double orphan who is being cared for by her Auntie. Before coming to VOH Burundi she says that her life was too hard, school fees were often not available and so went unpaid and there was seldom enough money to buy the school supplies that she needed. Her Auntie did her best, but she was not able to find a job and as a result had no regular source of income.

We rejoice together with Sandra and her family upon her graduation. Sandra wants to become a secretary and we know that she will be able to reach her goal with the support of her family and the help of the VOH Burundi sponsors.

Baptisms

Several children from our VOH Chongwe family were baptized this past week during a service led by our local pastor. We are so happy to see the great transformation in the lives of these youth!

VOH Malawi was also thrilled to celebrate the baptisms of 13 children. This is a pivotal moment in their spiritual journeys and we rejoice with them. Each one attended baptism classes to ensure they understood the deep meaning behind this step of faith. We are so happy to see them pursuing their faith wholeheartedly.

Congratulations, Vigendra!

06.11.2015 KITWEVigendra is the 5th born in a family of six children. All of the siblings came as a family to VOH Kitwe in 2005 after losing both parents. We were very happy that we were able to provide a home to all six children.

Often when children lose their parents they are divided and sent to various relatives and friends to be cared for. When she came to VOH back in 2005, Vigendra was 8 years old. Today, four of her siblings have already graduated from the school and are being looked after by Wendy, the oldest of the four.In addition to providing a home for her brothers and sisters, Wendy is also taking a teaching course. Vigendra has just completed grade 12 and in January she will return to VOH to begin the Kachimfya Youth Empowerment Program.

It is so exciting to see children who have grown up at VOH establishing themselves in their communities and caring for one another!

Hope For Muchelo

06.11.2015 MONGUSweet little Muchelo was discharged from the feeding program at VOH Mongu’s Save A Life Center this week! He was brought to us by his beautiful Kuku (Grandmother) who was struggling to care for Muchelo after his mother passed away. When he was brought to VOH he was 2 months old, and weighed 4,54kgs. He now weighs 6,74kgs and is doing so much better.

We have loved seeing little Muchelo improve and his Kuku has been an absolute joy to work with. She encourages all the mothers, loves to dance and sing, and always has something to share during our devotions.

It is such a blessing to see the love and care she gives to Muchelo!

Welcoming Enock

06.11.2015 MWANZAAt VOH Mwanza we were very happy to welcome little Enock last week. He has come to stay with us temporarily but we have no real timeline for how long he will actually need to stay. We have welcomed him in and are happy to be able to give him a home for as long as he needs.

He is two and a half and very sweet. He’s still quite quiet and timid and getting a smile out of him can be a challenge but we’re working on it.

Mama Editha has taken him into her home and everyone at Glory House is excited to have a new little brother in the house.

Central Church Team

06.11.2015 ZIMBABWE

VOH Zimbabwe recently received a team from Central Church in Ontario. They worked on completing our new play centre. While they were with us, they also ran a VBS for ages 5-11 after school each day.

The kids love their new play center and they had lots of fun with the team while they were together. We appreciate all those who take the time to come and visit us, it is a real encouragement to both the children and staff and lets them know how much they are loved and how special they are!
