Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

VOH Mwanza Youth Camp

07.17.2015 MWANZA

VOH Mwanza and Mwanza Pentecostal Church (MPC) partnered to put on a youth camp for all of our VOH teens as well as some friends from the surrounding communities. It was a three-day camp where we went offsite and had several teaching sessions, team building activities, and movies. All enjoyed the opportunity to spend time, and talk and pray together. It was a big success.

All the youth really enjoyed the opportunity and learned so much and the leaders had fun as well getting to know the kids better. Everyone was so happy about the camp that we plan to make it an annual event!

VOH Burundi Starts a Choir!

07.17.2015 BURUNDI

Children from VOH Burundi’s boys and girls clubs and discipleship program have formed a children’s choir. They sang in the Sunday morning service last week at our local church and the congregation celebrated with them as they shared about the good things that have happened in their lives through the ministry of Village of Hope. We are very happy that the children continue to have a spirit of peace and thankfulness even during these times of political crisis in Burundi.

VOH Chongwe Cultural Group

07.17.2015 CHONGWE

VOH Chongwe recently started art-integrated programs that run after regular school class sessions. We have a Cultural Group that uses dance and song to communicate various lessons to their fellow students. Last week the group took part in a competition at the district level, which was organized by the Drug Enforcement Commission. Our School’s Cultural group delivered the best advocacy message to the community on the effect of drug abuse through their dances and songs and they were rewarded with a trophy.

VOH Kenya Teacher’s Appreciation

07.17.2015 KENYA

VOH Kenya’s Director, Administrator, and one of the Board Members recently gathered together in Kisumu with all the teachers to thank them for all their hard work and dedication over the past year. The Hope Academy continues to do very well academically and the teachers celebrated Hope Academy’s great results and success on the latest national exams. The teachers were treated to a nice lunch at a nearby restaurant and heard many words of thanks from different speakers. There was also discussion on how to jump-start the next year and strategies on how to ensure continued progress at the school.

VOH Kenya is grateful to all the men and women who work so hard to educate and speak positively into the lives of our children!

07.17.2015 MALAWI
At VOH Malawi our school took a trip to play a girls netball match against a rival school. We spent the whole day together and even brought a special lunch with us from our feeding program. The whole Village was celebrating when our girls won their match 16 – 4. Their smiles tell the story!

Kalenga Meets his Sponsor

07.17.2015 MONGU

It was so wonderful for Kalenga to meet his sponsor last week when he paid a visit to VOH Mongu. Whenever a child has the opportunity to actually meet the person who is sponsoring them it is such a blessing. We are thankful for each sponsor and grateful for their desire to make a difference in the life of a VOH child.Find out more about sponsoring a VOH Africa child and vohafrica.com/child-sponsorship

VOH Zimbabwe Students in National Art Competition

07.17.2015 ZIMBABWE

Six students from VOH Zimbabwe’s High School entered the Tavatose/Sisonke Art competition organized by the National Art Gallery in partnership with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).
The competition was “Vanishing Wetlands.”

Artworks had to be two dimensional (drawing, painting or printmaking) or three dimensional (sculpture ceramics or construction). Five students from the Village entered two dimensional art works and one entered a construction piece. Prior to the competition, schools were instructed to organize trips to wetlands to give children a general idea about wetlands.

Natasha, one of our students, won first prize in her category and number one in the nation, she was awarded prize money of $75.00 and a certificate.

Forty-six high schools participated in the competition. The Awards ceremony was held at the National Art Gallery and the EMA Director, was the guest of honor. We are very proud of all six of our students who entered the competition; each of them worked hard on their projects and showed great creativity and talent!
