Feeding 120 at VOH Zimbabwe: This Week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Feeding 120 at VOH Zimbabwe

06.26 ZIMBABWE

The new off-site feeding program that VOH Zimbabwe started in March continues to grow and is now reaching an average of 120 children per day! Each child receives a serving of high-energy protein porridge as well as basic pre-school lessons and a bible story. We also have a game time each day.

Praying for Burundi

06.26 BURUNDI

VOH Burundi recently organized a special time at Bwiza Center with the intention to pray for the nation of Burundi during these troubling times. We also took the opportunity to hear from the children any concerns they have, and to encourage them. They were taught that we all have a role to play during such times and their contribution of prayer for the well being of our nation is very important.

Celebrating Birthdays at VOH Chongwe!

06.26 CHONGWE

Celebration adds excitement and a lot of fun to life! It was a joyful weekend for the kids living in the VOH Chongwe Children’s Homes because there was a birthday celebration for 5 children who had birthdays this month. The other children sang the Happy Birthday song for them and then everyone ate cake and popcorn, played music, and danced.

These celebrations let the children know they are a part of our family and they are special and loved.

Composting at VOH Kitwe

06.26 KITWE
Compost is something most people have heard about, made or used sometime during their lives; but many don’t really know how to make it to a high standard.

At VOH Kitwe we are teaching those in our Kachinfya Youth Empowerment Program how to make compost.

When making the compost pile three ingredients are needed:

  1. Brown organic material: dry Straw or grass, maize cobs, wood shavings.
  2. Green organic material: grass, leaves and weeds.
  3. Animal manure

These materials are then put together according to groups and the process repeats itself. Water is then added to the compost mixture after it is initially prepared.

The compost will be used in the Students’ garden, and learning how to make it themselves will be a great help to them in the future.

VOH Malawi Staff Undefeated!

06.26 MALAWI

The VOH Malawi staff soccer team has been gaining quite the reputation around the Lilongwe region. We receive challenges from different villages in the surrounding community and remain undefeated so far this year.

During this particular match at a small village just outside of town, some of our VOH girls began marching around the field singing victory songs in support of our team–and with good reason–we won yet again 4 – nil!

Health Checks at VOH Mongu

06.26 MONGU

It was a very busy time at the VOH Mongu clinic as we held school health checks this past week. Once each term, all of the children receive an assessment of their eyes, ears, and general health. Parents and guardians are also welcome and many come with their children and receive HIV counseling and guidance.

VOH Mwanza VBS

06.26 MWANZA

We showed some pictures of our VBS last week but now that we’ve finished, we want to specifically recognize and appreciate our VOH Mwanza team who made it all possible!

We couldn’t have put on such a great week without this team. We had five volunteers from the Dar es Salaam Church, in addition many of our older students at the Village helped, and of course Pastor Audrey was there, too.

Some students led groups, some led activities—and everyone did such an amazing job. We were so proud. All the kids living at the village from ages 3-12 yrs old attended as well as about 50 children from the community for a total of nearly 100 children! It was a very successful and fun week.

At her own initiative, Elizabeth created a fundraiser she called “Power Off for Poverty.” The idea was to have children from her school to “power off” their entertainment and electronics and collect pledges to support VOH Mwanza… [read more]
