Reuniting Families at VOH Mwanza: This Week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Reuniting Families at VOH Mwanza!

mwanzaAt VOH Mwanza we are very happy whenever we can locate the families of children in our care and reunite them. Our Social Worker and Child Protection Officer work very hard with Social Welfare to locate any living family that the children may have and re-connect them.

We recently reunited two children (siblings) with their mother. They were kidnapped by their father when they were very young and taken far away from home. Their mother filed a police report at that time. After some time the father then abandoned them and left them with an elderly relative who was not able to care for two little children and so she brought them to social welfare here in Mwanza which is how they came to stay with us.

Their mother has been working on finding them and was recently connected to us through Social Welfare. While it was sad to see Eunice and William leave VOH Mwanza, we are very happy that they are back with their mother and doing well. We are also thankful that they both have sponsors who will sponsor them and help them continue their education.

Bersaglio visit VOH Burundi

burundiVOH Burundi was blessed last week to receive a visit from Sergio and Nancy Bersaglio, leaders of Villages of Hope Africa. They both left a mark in the lives of the children and staff as they visited and shared with all of us.

The mothers and aunties were encouraged by Sergio to learn from the example of Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth. Just like the children that we care for at VOH, Ruth was not Naomi’s biological child; but as Naomi showed Ruth love and cared for her, Ruth in turn followed Naomi’s leading, respected her and loved her back.

Samson joins VOH Chongwe

burundiThe VOH Chongwe family is very happy to welcome Samson to our family! He is a clinical officer and will be working at our new clinic. Samson’s help will allow our clinic to provide good health care to the Village as well as the surrounding community.

Textbooks for VOH Kenya

kenyaThrough a recent generous donation, VOH Kenya was able to purchase over 700 new curriculum textbooks ranging from Nursery to grade 8.

It makes a huge difference for a child to be able to work from their own textbook, read at their own pace and complete an assignment according to their unique learning needs.

The teachers were also excited to see the variety in books and start to create lesson plans around them. VOH Kenya is grateful for the generosity and hearts of people who make education more accessible to our children and creating opportunities for meaningful learning!

VOH Kitwe Farm Training

KitweThis week, the members of the Foundation for farming, Caroline and Terry Webster, were at VOH Kitwe to offer service in training conservation farming to the housemothers, teachers, Kachimfya staff, and administration.

The Kachimfya Director, Amy Singleton, organized this training so all those who are trained will in turn be overseers/trainers of the children and youth in their care.

The team learned how to make composite from materials that was readily available on site. Part of the training involved preparing a sample field of maize.

We are grateful to be exposed to such knowledge and immediately impart it to the children in our care. It has been 3 days of hard work by the facilitators and the team, and we know this experience will go a long way!

VOH Malawi Shopping Trip!

malawiAn exciting time was had at VOH Malawi this week when some of our children were able to go shopping with the birthday gift money they received from their Child Care Plus sponsors. Their house mothers took them shopping to the market in Lilongwe and you can see the happy smiles that Esmie and Gome brought back, along with some clothes, shoes, and of course, treats!

Child Care Plus sponsorship is a vital element of the children’s lives here at VOH Malawi. Sponsors mean so much to these children and every letter and picture are deeply valued. These special birthday moments are treasured and are such an encouragement for these precious kids. Celebrating Hope at VOH Mongu

monguThere was a lot of excitement around VOH Mongu since we recently began talking to the children about the #BringingHope pictures that we are going to be taking. The children had a lot of fun thinking about what they would like to be when they grow up and also preparing their costumes to match their chosen careers!
