Christmas Celebrations
Happy New Year! We are back from Christmas holidays and ready for another exciting year at VOH. Over the break the Villages had many christmas celebrations, here are a few of them…
*
On Christmas day, VOH Kitwe children and youth had a special Christmas meal sponsored by a family from Langley, BC. This family has sponsored Christmas meals for many years and we are so grateful for them.
The children and youths gather in the houses where they have grown and enjoy the meal. It is such a special time together, to share, have fun, and reflect on God’s gift of salvation through the birth of Jesus.
The special chicken dinner, followed by cakes, candies, and ice cream is an event the children look forward to each Christmas.

After our Christmas celebrations were over at VOH Mwanza, the older kids organized a soccer day. We had three separate age groups compete and the whole village got involved. Our Mamas and Aunties even joined in a game with the older girls—everyone had a great time!

Hope Football Club
VOH Burundi is happy to report that our Hope Football Club (HFC) is enjoying great success in the first few days of the new year. The club managed to reach the level where they played one of the national teams of Burundi and they had a tied game!
We are very proud of our youth!
Psycho-social Counselling at VOH Chongwe
VOH Chongwe started the new year by conducting training sessions in psycho-social counselling. This training is ongoing and enables the caregivers to be equipped to understand and handle the children who are coming from so many different backgrounds. Many of the children have suffered abuse and/or have been traumatized by the loss of parents and others close to them.
Books for VOH Kenya!
This week VOH Kenya met up with Afretech Aid Society in Nairobi to gather and transfer 60 boxes of books and library equipment back to VOH Hope Academy in Kisumu! Approximately 2500 books were shipped from Vancouver, BC to Nairobi with the help of Afretech Aid Society and the Delta Rotary Club.
Next month, after all of the books have been sorted, catalogued, labeled and shelved, VOH Kenya will have a beautiful library that children and classes can enjoy. We are so grateful for the many people who put time, effort and heart into this project to make it a reality in such a short period of time!
Back to School!
Children living in the community next to VOH Malawi are back at school this week. The children are happy to be back in class, dressed in their uniforms and ready to go!
We have 25 students from the surrounding community who join with the children living in the homes at the village to attend classes each day.
Save a Life Centre House Visits
Staff from the Save a Life feeding program at VOH Mongu are so blessed to be welcomed into the homes of those who are in the program. Each week we do house visits to check that the mothers are feeding their children correctly and to assess their home circumstances. We ensure the mosquito nets provided are being used and that home conditions will allow for the safe care of the children.
The mothers are so excited to see us, welcoming us in to have a look and sit down and have a chat. We also take time to talk about the teachings done at the centre and to share the gospel.
