This Week: VOH Graduate Gets Married!

This week at VOH Africa, we received a visit from local students, got new school uniforms, and hosted a wedding!

VOH Bwiza (Burundi): Visit from Local Students

Recently, at VOH Bwiza, a group of young students from the surrounding community visited our students!

They brought food, porridge, clothing, and soap. They also offered words of encouragement to our students and shared a message from the book of Isaiah.

The children were encouraged and blessed by the visit.

We are so grateful for our wonderful community and their interest in our work and supporting our children!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia): Catherine’s Story

Catherine is a happy girl who has been part of our VOH Chongwe community since she was four. Catherine is 15 now and is in ninth grade at our school.

“Before coming to VOH, my mother could not provide necessities for me after my father passed away,” Catherine shares.

She is very grateful for the safe shelter, caring and loving home environment, and the education she receives at VOH. Now a teenager, she’s looking forward to a bright adulthood.

Catherine has developed an interest in baking, cooking and gardening and hinted that she would like to become an agriculturist after graduation.

She also loves playing basketball and netball with her friends at the centre.

It is exciting for us to be part of Catherine’s life journey, ensuring a loving, caring and supportive transition into adulthood!

VOH Kitwe (Zambia): Tailoring Class

This week at VOH Kitwe, our grade 11 class learned how to take measurements and cut material in their tailoring class.

Everyone had a chance to cut the material according to the measurements with the teacher’s supervision. The teacher was thrilled with the students’ results.

Tailoring is one of the skills we teach our students that could help them earn a living when they graduate. With these skills, they can mend items, sew clothing, and much more!

VOH Luongo (Zambia): Ready for Term 3

At VOH Luongo, our students are returning for the third and final term of the year. Schools have opened, and children are excited to be back after their break.

They are eager to return to their various school activities and go on more field trips.

The teachers are also happy to have the children back in school and are prepared for the term ahead.

Our grade 7 students will write their final exams this term and have promised to study hard.

Since we are in the hot season now, some classes are taught outside, under the shade of a tree. Outdoor learning is fun for both the teacher and the children.

The staff and the children know this will be a great term and await all the exciting activities ahead!

VOH Malawi: Meeting with Parents and Guardians

This week, VOH Malawi met with parents and guardians, addressing essential matters related to their children’s care, support, and protection.

During the meeting, caregivers were encouraged to prioritize their children’s education and to nurture their spiritual development.

Our Administrator, Child Safeguarding Officer, Sponsorship Coordinator, and teachers were all in attendance. The presence of this team underscored VOH’s unwavering commitment to providing the best care to the children across multiple areas.

As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming term, we are optimistic about the positive experiences and opportunities it will bring to our students as we work together with their guardians to keep them safe, happy, and healthy!

VOH Mongu (Zambia): New School Uniforms

This week at VOH Mongu, our Grade 3 and 4 class experienced a heartwarming moment as they entered their third week of the term.

These young learners were buzzing with excitement as they received brand-new uniforms! The students, dressed in their crisp, newly acquired uniforms, radiated happiness as they proudly showcased their fresh attire.

As the students opened their uniform packages, you could see the sparkle of enthusiasm in their eyes. They eagerly tried on their uniforms, ensuring the perfect fit and taking a moment to admire themselves.

For many, this was not just about clothing; it symbolized a sense of belonging and pride in their school. School uniforms are about fostering a sense of unity, equality, and school spirit.

Teachers and staff were equally delighted to see the students’ reactions. The students’ excitement was contagious, reminding everyone of the impact small gestures can have on young minds.

VOH Mongu continues to provide a nurturing and supportive environment where our students can flourish both academically and personally. The joy radiating from our Grade 3 and 4 class this week is a testament to the positive atmosphere we strive to create, and it leaves us looking forward to more moments of growth, unity, and happiness throughout the school year!

VOH Mwanza (Tanzania): Paul Gets Married

At VOH Mwanza, we recently celebrated the heartwarming union of Paul and Teresia.

Paul was raised within our loving VOH community, and earlier in the year, he asked if he could hold his wedding ceremony at our VOH centre. We happily granted his request, thrilled that he wanted to include VOH in such a milestone event.

A dedicated community of friends, staff, and the very children Paul grew up with came together to make this day magical. The couple exchanged their vows at our VOH chapel. The ceremony was a testament to love, resilience, and the spirit of unity that defines our community.

Here’s to love, family, and new beginnings. May the journey ahead be as beautiful and heartwarming as the love that brought Paul and Teresia together!

VOH Zimbabwe: Welcoming Three New Children

It was a glorious week as we welcomed three special children to VOH Zimbabwe.

We welcomed two siblings who were surrendered to the Department of Social Services along with a 13-year-old girl who has nowhere safe to live.

All three are now at home at VOH, and we welcome them with open arms. We will do our best to give them love and care as we build a future for them so they can grow up happy and healthy.

The two oldest have already started school at our centre; the third will join in 2024.

We thank God for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the children in Zimbabwe!
