This Week: Helping Girls Stay in School

This week we received a donation of feminine hygiene products, learned how to take measurements, and built a fence!

VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Tutoring Lessons

At VOH Bwiza, our children show up each day for a nutritious meal, followed by tutoring lessons. The children enjoy having the chance to ask more questions and use our chalkboards to share information so they can learn together! We are happy that these lessons help our children grow intellectually and increase their confidence. If they weren’t in school, the children might wander around the community without anything to do. Instead, they are supervised and are gaining additional knowledge and health support simultaneously!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Receiving Bibles!

Three VOH Chongwe children holding their new Bibles.

This week at VOH Chongwe, the children in grades 6 and 8 received New International Revised Versions of the Bible. For most, this is their first Bible. They are so excited to have their very own Bible that they can read whenever they like!

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: Visitors from ZNBC!

VOH Kitwe staff with the visitors from the Zambia National Media House.

VOH Kitwe is blessed by people who visit the children in so many different ways. This week staff members from the Zambia National Media House visited. They first came and explained to our administration what they planned to do during their visit, and then they went to our school and talked to the staff and high school students. They came to introduce their iLead Club, a careers club where children are guided in their career pathway and are encouraged to work hard in subjects related to their chosen career path. Our students enjoyed meeting the visitors. They had only seen them on ZNBC, our national television station and having them with us in person, so willing to share information and answer questions, was a real treat!

VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Learning Measurements

This week at VOH Luongo, our grade 4 students are learning about measurements. The topic was easy to teach and much easier for the students to learn because each child had a math set to use! This was the first time the students had an opportunity to use the recently donated sets. They enjoyed learning about the different measurement types with hands-on experience instead of seeing the teacher show them on the chalkboard. We are so thankful that our children have the necessary tools to make learning easy and fun. Thank you to all who put their time and effort into making math class more practical and fun for the kids!

VOH Malawi Update: New Perimeter Fence

VOH Malawi construction team building a wall.

Since opening our VOH Malawi location in Kauma, we have been operating from an open space with no fence around our property. This has meant that people can take a shortcut through our centre when moving around the community. We have had people on foot, bikes, motorcycles, and even cars pass through! This perimeter fence will help us keep the kids safe and be at ease about our safety and security. The wall will be neighbour-friendly so the community can still see through it instead of having a wall that completely blocks the view. We are so thankful to our generous partners, Oasis Church, for raising funds and making this dream come true!

VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Feminine Hygiene Donation

VOH Mongu girls holding up donated feminine hygiene products.

For many girls here in Mongu, education isn’t just important for a brighter future, it’s critical to survival. This week at VOH Mongu, we were thrilled to have the Foundation For Adolescent Girls and Young People in Zambia partner with us by sponsoring our school with feminine hygiene products like sanitary pads, soap, and underwear. Their visit and donation were a huge blessing, and our girls were very thankful! Now they will be able to continue to care for their health with confidence without having to miss any school! We want to thank all those who made this generous donation possible!

VOH Zimbabwe Update: New Kitchen Supplies!

New kitchen supplies, including pots, brooms, cups, and mops.

We currently have nine homes at VOH Zimbabwe, and it’s been a while since we replaced our kitchen pots and pans. Some of them were beginning to show the signs of old age and needed replacement. This week we received a donation which we were able to put towards this cause, and the housemothers are thrilled! We replaced most of the pots, buckets, plates, and cutlery. We are grateful for this timely donation which has helped the homes immensely!
