This Week: Groundbreaking News (literally!)

VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Thank You, Teachers!

At VOH Bwiza, we are so thankful for our teachers and their commitment to their students’ ongoing success! VOH Bwiza children attend public schools nearby, and each day after classes, they come to our VOH Centre to receive a nutritious meal and participate in our extra tutoring. We help the students according to their age and grades and offer instruction in whatever areas they are studying. The teachers support learning in various subjects, including French, English, math, physics, chemistry, and social sciences. These extra lessons have helped our children so much. We can’t wait to see what the new school year has in store!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Height and Weight Check-Ups

At VOH Chongwe, assessing, monitoring, and observing the development and progress of our children helps us holistically take care of them. This week we recorded every child’s height and weight. We compare the current results to past results and watch for any changes of concern. If there are any concerns, we intervene with additional nutritional or medical support as needed. Our clinic staff oversee these routine check-ups and any medical follow-ups. Ensuring good health is an essential part of the children’s well-being!

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: High School Extension Groundbreaking

VOH Kitwe is excited to share that we held a groundbreaking ceremony for our new high school extension! This new extension will separate the primary school from the high school giving both levels additional classrooms and outdoor space. It also is the first two-storey building at our Centre! Come 2022, all students in grades 8 to 12 will learn from the new high school. Our VOH Kitwe director, local board members, site engineer, and Lead team were all present to celebrate this special occasion. The board vice-chairperson prayed for the project’s success and each person involved in the construction. It was a joyous occasion for VOH Kitwe to see the progression of the work being done here at the Centre. We are so grateful to our partners and donors for funding this project!

VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Christmas Letters

It’s an exciting time of the year when children get to write Christmas letters to their sponsors! Here at VOH Luongo, the children all spent time writing a special Christmas greeting for their sponsors. For some of the newer children, it was their very first letter. They were so happy to have a chance to share the experiences they’ve had throughout the year. Writing letters allows VOH children to stay connected to their sponsors and share their appreciation. We are so grateful for every VOH sponsor!

VOH Malawi Update: Eye Health Screening

This week at VOH Malawi, we had visitors from Central Optical Link screen all the kids at our Centre. We recently took one of our VOH children to their office and observed they had sight problems. We realized that our kids could benefit from a vision check-up, so we arranged this special visit. So far, several kids have been diagnosed with sight challenges. Now we will address the problem and provide glasses and any other assistance they may require. We are thankful for this great opportunity and are hopeful that we will see improvements in the children’s learning and quality of life!

VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: New Classrooms

At VOH Maramvya, the new school year is underway, and the teachers are optimistic about the year ahead. When everyone first arrived back, they were astonished to see three new classrooms! Students and teachers alike are so happy to see how nice the buildings look and are so excited to learn in them! The entire VOH Maramvya family is very proud of our new school buildings. We are so grateful to each sponsor and donor who continues to make the dream of education and a brighter tomorrow a reality!

VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: New Water Pipes

At VOH Mongu, one of the many things our hardworking construction staff are responsible for is the ongoing maintenance of our plumbing and water supply. This past week they’ve been busy with new water pipe installations around our Centre. Recently, our Centre has been experiencing challenges with low water supply. This ongoing project will help increase the amount of sufficient water supply and provide clean and safe drinking water around the whole Centre! We are so thankful for the diligence and passion of our construction team!

VOH Mwanza (Tanzania) Update: Lake-Zone Extension Program

VOH Mwanza, in partnership with Child CarePlus (CCP), supports over 400 children in the outlying lake-zone region of Tanzania by providing for their educational and dietary needs. These children live in challenging conditions, so the support they receive through this program is critical and much appreciated by the children and their caregivers. This week, our VOH administration team assembled care packages. During distribution, the team will ensure everything goes smoothly, and the correct items reach the children in need that we are helping through this important extension program.

VOH Zimbabwe Update: Supporting our Community

Our community outreach program coordinators at VOH Zimbabwe are always looking for opportunities to support children who aren’t yet part of our satellite programs. Recently, we received a donation of 100 food packs. Each pack included mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, and salt. We were able to distribute these packs to families in need in the nearby communities. We are happy to provide additional help to children and their families in our community whenever we can!
