This Week: New Year, New Roof, and Electricity!

VOH Bwiza (Burundi) Update: Samson Gets Married!

Recently at VOH Bwiza, Samson–one of our graduates–got married! Samson was one of the first youth to join our VOH family when we first opened in 2010. He then graduated from technical school and found a full-time job after graduation. It was an honour to be part of his wedding. Samson’s wife Annick is beautiful outside and inside and they are a very happy young couple. Congratulations, Annick and Sam, we wish you many blessings as you begin your married life!

VOH Chongwe (Zambia) Update: Preparing for the New School Year

One of the ways we change lives at VOH Chongwe is through our school. Most of our students can’t afford public school fees, which means without VOH, they likely wouldn’t be in school. This week our teachers are busy getting everything ready for when our children return from break. The teaching staff have been holding meetings on how best they can teach effectively amid COVID-19. Our clinic personnel are also helping with the preparations. All classrooms have been checked to ensure safety measures are in place for our children to come and study. We are looking forward to next week when schools reopen!

VOH Kitwe (Zambia) Update: Clinic Follow-Ups

One of the ways our VOH Kitwe Clinic continues to serve our community children is by having them return for follow-up visits and treatments when they have been ill. This week we followed up with one of our grade 11 students who came to the clinic because she was not feeling well. The clinic clerk was at hand to attend to her and then she saw the clinical officer who prescribed some medication. We are so thankful we can keep our clinic pharmacy stocked with enough medicine to dispense as needed. Thanks to all of our faithful supporters and sponsors who help us provide medical care to our students and staff!

VOH Luongo (Zambia) Update: Using our New Classrooms!

It’s a new year and schools are opening next week in Zambia. The VOH Luongo children are thrilled the government is reopening schools and they are geared up to be back in class. The staff is taking time to plan for the whole term and prepare teaching and learning aids that will be used as they carry out their lessons. All the preparations are being done at VOH Luongo’s new school site. We are so excited we will be able to use our new classrooms this year! A big thank you to all of our generous donors who provided funds for the buildings and school materials. We are positive it will be a great year and that together we will have lots of fun teaching and watching our children learn and grow!

VOH Malawi Update: Starting the New School Year

We’re off to an exciting start to 2021 here at VOH Malawi as our students enter a new grade. Normally in Malawi students start a new school year in September; however, due to COVID-19 the government of Malawi postponed the start of the new school year to give students a chance to catch up on the classes they missed. COVID-19 preventative measures are still in place and we are becoming more used to them, which makes the learning process easier for the students. We’re ready for a great year!

VOH Maramvya (Burundi) Update: Electricity!

Since the day our VOH Maramvya center opened, we have not had access to electricity. But as we have shared previously, we were recently blessed with pure drinking water and now we have access to electricity! Our neighbours in the community will also benefit from this new development because we requested the company bring electricity to the entire area and not just our center. We thank REGIDESO (Region of Production and Distribution of Water and Electricity) for accepting our request and bringing this vital service to us here in Maramvya!

VOH Mongu (Zambia) Update: Ready for the New Year!

We are so excited for this new year at VOH Mongu! All of our staff are back at work after their Christmas holidays and are excited to begin working again and planning for the year ahead. While Zambia is putting in more restrictions to help curb the new strain of COVID-19 that is spreading, we are still able to run most of our VOH programs while following increased safety measures. Our administration team comes in every day, our Save A Life program is still running, and our homes are thriving! We are so excited about the year ahead. We know there will be challenges and things that will change amid the ongoing pandemic and we are ready to be flexible, but we also know God is going to do something amazing in the lives of our children this year and we are happy to be here for them. Thank you to all of our sponsors for making what we do possible!

VOH Zimbabwe Update: School Renovations

At VOH Zimbabwe we recently began renovating our school blocks. We are removing the old roof sheets and replacing them with iron sheets. Our original roofing sheets were fragile and over time were wearing away from the weather. We are grateful for a generous donation that has made this possible. These renovations will help protect our buildings and will ensure the children can continue learning in a safe, comfortable environment for years to come!
