Writing to Sponsors: this week at VOH Africa

Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Kenya: Writing to Sponsors

It’s letter-writing time again at VOH Kenya! The children enjoy having a chance to connect with their sponsors through writing. They like to write about how they are doing in school, what their favourite things are, and how life is going for them in Kenya. They also like to tell their sponsors what they want to be when they grow up. “I want to be a teacher” “I want to be an engineer” “I want to be a firefighter”.

When their letters are being written, and their hope-filled voices say what they want to be, we are reminded of the mission of Villages of Hope – Africa, “To bring lasting hope to children at risk so they can embrace adulthood and become contributing members of society.”

Special thanks to each sponsor and everyone who donates to the ministry of Villages of Hope, you are making a big difference in the lives of these children.

Burundi: Celebrating Labour Day!

This past week VOH Burundi staff and volunteers met together to celebrate the International Labour Day Holiday! Delson, our Village Director, took this great opportunity to express his appreciation to everyone for their commitment to their tasks and for the wonderful way they continue to show our children how much we care for them. We also enjoyed having light refreshments together and everyone committed to continuing to do their best in order to keep the special work of our Village moving forward.

Chongwe: Mobile Chicken Coup

VOH Chongwe is excited to be the first Village of Hope to construct a mobile chicken coop! Special thanks to our Executive Director (Uncle Serge), our very own construction foreman, Happy, and guest volunteer, Lawren, who came from Ontario to help us with the project.

The Chicken Coop will be placed in the garden and moved to a new location in the garden every few days. This allows the chicken droppings to be used as manure. This first coop will serve as a prototype, we have cut and measured each piece and taken a video of the assembly so that other Villages will be able to build coops for their gardens, too.

Kitwe: Generous Donations

At VOH Kitwe, we are thankful for every person who comes to visit us, both those that come from far away as well as those who come from our immediate community. This past week a friend and her two daughters from one of the local churches came to the Village. They came to visit the children and encourage the staff. They also blessed us with a gift of groceries for the children’s homes!

Malawi: Hospital Visitation

This week at VOH Malawi our teenagers spent their Saturday morning at the hospital going from patient to patient offering to visit and pray for any who would allow them. It was so great to see them out in the community and demonstrating God’s love in such a practical way. They also had a good time together doing it; we saw them bonding even more as they shared this special experience.

Mongu: Holiday Club!

This week at the VOH Mongu, our incredible staff and many volunteers from our local church put on a Holiday Club for our kids and also opened it up to any children within the local community as well. The leaders put together lessons and Bible verses and paired them with cartoon video clips to help them illustrate the message each day.

The days were filled with lots of dancing, fun games, and a message that emphasized that each and every one of them are special to us and to God.

The kids loved getting to watch the cartoon clips and had so much fun learning and playing together with their friends during the week.

Mwanza: Paul Graduates

At VOH Mwanza, we were happy to celebrate with Paul, one of our students, at his Form 6 graduation. Paul has worked very hard to complete his studies and we are very proud of him. He would love to go to University so we are exploring those options as we wait for his exam results. We know he has a bright future full of hope ahead of him. Congratulations, Paul!

Zimbabwe: Soccer Academy

13.may.2016 ZIMBABWE

At VOH Zimbabwe, we started running a soccer academy for our children who are under 13 years of age. We are excited about this new program and are expecting it will become a very vibrant part of our Village. Sports bring us all together while some play and others cheer them on. It also is a great way for those who may not be strong academically to still find something they can excel at.
