Check out what’s been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…
Boxes of Love at VOH Chongwe
It was a special day at VOH Chongwe last week when the children each received a Box of Love. Everyone was so excited to see all of the great things in their box – there were smiling faces all around!
A big thank you to Christian Life Assembly in BC for organizing and shipping the Boxes to Zambia again this year.
VOH Malawi Bible Verses
Children in the Grade 3 class at VOH Malawi were excited to receive a thumbs-up award for learning the Bible passage of the month. All the classes in our school are encouraged to learn a new Bible verse each month and they enjoy practicing together and helping each other out.
Julie Visits VOH Burundi
Last week at VOH Burundi we were blessed to receive a visitor from England. Julie is a teacher visiting Burundi and heard about the work we do and wanted to pay a visit. We had a lot of fun together, playing games and singing, and before leaving Julie said a prayer for all of the children. It is encouraging and exciting for the children and staff when we receive special visitors!
Update from Save a Life Centre
Save a Life Center at VOH Mongu always follows up on discharged babies and their mothers with house visits to make sure the baby and mom are both doing well. This past week we had the privilege of meeting four generations of women in the family that we visited. The great great grandmother to baby Debora, both grandmothers, and Baby Debora’s mom. The whole family was happy to be together and delighted to see how well baby Debora is doing since recently being discharged from the clinic.
Fire Training at VOH Kitwe
This week VOH Kitwe underwent a refresher training course in fire extinguisher use. The fire company was on site to give a refresher course to the children and house mothers and key members of staff. It was a very beneficial time of interaction as the group asked questions and participated in the a demonstration of how to operate the equipment.
VOH Zimbabwe Netball Team
Last week VOH Zimbabwe’s senior netball team were happy to have their photo taken before beginning their big match. The excitement was high as the team gathered together before the game! The girls are great at netball and have learned a lot of skills and have also learned the importance of good sportsmanship. We are proud of you, girls!
Library Cleaning at VOH Kenya
This week VOH Kenya students helped the school principal clean out and organize the school library. The library currently consists mostly of academic books for each grade. Dawn Ellwyn, who is working with the Okellos at the Village, is returning to Canada this summer to do some promoting and fundraising so that she will be able to purchase and transport a variety of reading materials and fill the new library up with a picture books, novels, reading level books, atlases, study-help books, board games, and many other things that are usually found in a children’s library!
Teachers and students alike are excited to be able to add a library class to their schedule where they can read and learn together!
VOH Zimbabwe Welcomes Isaac
VOH Zimbabwe is happy to welcome Isaac, the newest child to move into one of the children’s homes. Isaac is happy to join the VOH family and he and his new House Mother hit it off right away! Welcome, Isaac!
