Chongwe Health Week: this week at VOH Africa

Here’s what’s happening this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Chongwe: Health Week!

Recently VOH Chongwe took part in “Child Health Week” — a program sponsored by the Zambian Ministry of Health. The program provides children up to the age of five years old Vitamin A Supplements, de-worming pills, all required vaccinations for their age group, and insecticide treated mosquito nets.

We are thankful to be among the clinics chosen by the government to be a centre for this much-needed service. It was a blessing to VOH and to all of our neighbours who came to the Village to participate in the program.

Burundi: Feeding Program

Even during summer holidays, VOH Burundi continues to provide the daily feeding program to our children as well as children in need from the surrounding community. We are thankful to all the sponsors who enable us to offer a nutritious meal to these children. They are always happy to meet at the Bwiza Center in the morning to have their breakfast served with love!

Kitwe: Staff Bonding

At VOH Kitwe, we are intentional about providing opportunities for the staff to spend time together outside of work. Spending time builds great morale and team spirit. This past week we had a wonderful time exercising together with the children cheering us on! Spending this time together allows us to set an example of unity and purpose to the VOH children. There are no awards for “winning” because it’s not about competing; rather, we celebrate with each other for participating and strengthening our community at VOH.

Malawi: Fun City!

This week at VOH Malawi the kids were thrilled to spend the afternoon at Fun City with some of our longtime friends from Spain. Their generosity gave the children an unforgettable afternoon playing, bouncing, laughing, and revelling in the joy of it all. As the adventure came to a close they were all treated to a delicious ice cream cup. It was a wonderful afternoon!

Mongu: Vegetables for Sale!

The greenhouse at VOH Mongu’s children homes is overflowing with green beans, Chinese cabbage, and many other delicious veggies. The mothers, aunties and older children care for these crops and put so much hard work in and are now seeing their efforts pay off!

The mothers and aunties can now use the vegetables in meals for their kids and then sell the excess to staff members to make more grocery money for the homes.

Mwanza: Friends from Mississauga

VOH Mwanza recently welcomed a team from Mississauga, Canada. Eleven people came from Portico Community Church and spent one week in Mwanza at the Village.

The team members were involved in various activities, including performing medical check-ups on all VOH children; hosting leadership and teacher training workshops; hosting chapel services, and sharing encouragement with our housemothers.

We are very thankful for all this team was able to accomplish in such a short time! Everyone at the village was blessed because of their hearts to serve.

Zimbabwe: Community Outreach

At VOH Zimbabwe our mission is to make sure our children are well taken care of physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In addition to the feeding program that we run on site at Village of Hope, we also run two Community Outreach feeding programs in our neighbouring communities.

It is important to us that we ensure the children receive the nutrition they need to get them through the day. We are thankful to all of our friends who make these outreach programs possible through their generous contributions!

Boxes of Love 2017 Feature

“In our family, the number of boxes that we have filled over the years is approximately 300. My past two trips I was able to recognise boxes of love that were packed by my family when giving them out in Zambia. I got to experience the joy that the boxes brought to all the children…” read more
