Life-Changing Transformations: This week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Life-Changing Transformations

IMG_0291Today, VOH Burundi would like to share these great visible changes in Blessing and Kay-Fils lives. Before being supported by Villages of Hope, they were very malnourished and hopeless. It was so hard for them to smile because there wasn’t much reason to do so.
At VOH we provide nutritious porridge and these two boys have now grown much healthier (and happier!) as you can see in these before and after pictures.

God bless all people who donate to save lives!

IMG_0292Our miracle triplets have been discharged from the feeding program! We are so proud of how well these three little girls have done in the last six months. They came to our clinic six months ago all three together weighing just over 3kgs.
The babies’ mother gave birth to five babies naturally; unfortunately 2 of them passed away but three kept fighting and are so strong today.
Their difficult start as three of quintuplets born not only early but also in challenging social circumstances has not hindered them in doing incredibly well. They are catching up both in weight and development and now are three gorgeous, chubby little girls.
Tabo weighed 1.4kgs at birth and now weighs 7,02kgs! Limpo came to the clinic weighing 1,74kgs and now weighs 6,90kgs and Likezo was born at 1,25kgs and now weighs 6,78kgs!
Their mother is delighted and never dreamt her children would do so well–she encouraged all the mothers to continue with the program and thanked God for the blessings she now has with three healthy babies.

VOH Chongwe on Christmas Break

IMG_0289This past school year, VOH Chongwe was full of joy and fun for the students, while learning new things and making new friends. Last Friday, classes for the current school year were completed and the students have gone on a recess. The new school year begins in January.
On the last day of classes, parents and guardians came to collect the report cards and had the opportunity to discuss the progress of the children their teachers. The school also led a discussion on how best they can work as a team with the parents and guardians to encourage the children to work hard.

VOH Kenya Staff Training

IMG_0286VOH Kenya recently completed 3 days of training with all of its staff. Everyone at VOH Kenya, including the children, go through Child Protection Policy training at least 3 times a year. This time around, we reviewed the CPP manual, reporting, definitions of abuse, and signs of abuse.
The training went very well and people walked away feeling better informed and perpared to properly look after the children in our care.

Empowering Youth at VOH Kitwe

IMG_0285VOH Kitwe’s Youth Empowerment Program was recently renamed Kachimfya, which means “Overcomers” in Bemba. They celebrated the end of the Fall planning sessions by sharing a meal together.
Kachimfya Leader, Amy Singleton, as well as the students, contributed food items towards the meal. It was exciting to see that the group has blended well and are eager to do things together.
The most interesting part of this meeting was to hear them say they are coming back to be part of the main Kachimfya program in January 2015. These will be the pioneers and leaders for the others who join in January.
We are very encouraged by the way that the youth empowerment program is taking shape!

VOH Malawi Prepares for Rainy Season

IMG_0287VOH Malawi’s lead gardener, Uncle Gilbert, is busy ploughing the field in preparation for the rainy season. We will soon be planting several acres of maize.  Last year’s crop lasted for six months!

Christmas Decorating at VOH Mwanza!

IMG_0288This is one of VOH Mwanza’s transitioned youth, Dotto. He is now living independently but every year he makes time to come back to VOH at Christmas time to help us decorate–everyone knows decorating for Christmas is his job.
This was a job he really enjoyed for many years while he was living on-site and even though he’s moved out now he comes back each year without fail to decorate the office and the hall. This year he has decided to make a special drawing for each child, which he will incorporate into his decorations for the Holiday Season and then give to each of them to keep afterwards.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at VOH Mwanza!

VOH Zimbabwe Christmas Party!

IMG_0290Children living at VOH Zimbabwe were treated to a special party yesterday by a local company. There was lots of fun games for all and special gifts were given to the children as well.
We are always happy when our local community shows support for what is happening at Village of Hope!

Latest Blog “Director’s Blog: Visiting Bethlehem”

“So as we celebrate Christmas and sit with our loved ones and eat the Christmas meal, do it in remembrance of Him. The one who came from Glory through a simple unassuming birth, grew up in a traditional Jewish home, learned of His Father in the synagogue like others, was baptized in the Jordan, trained a group of non-traditional disciples, had constant conflict with the religious rulers, died a criminal’s death, rose from the dead after being buried, and ascended back to glory.” Read full story
