Directors Visit Malawi: this week at VOH Africa

Here’s what’s happening this week at Villages of Hope-Africa…

Malawi: Directors Visit!

Recently, Uncle Serge and Aunty Nancy (VOH Africa Directors) came to visit us at VOH Malawi. We invited Uncle Serge to share at our chapel service on Friday afternoon. He held over 300 children’s attention with his engaging teaching style. Thanks for coming to visit us, Bersaglios!

Burundi: Happy Birthday!

In Burundi, it is common for children to not celebrate their birthday. In fact, many children, especially those born into vulnerable family situations, are not even sure of their date of birth.

One of the ways VOH Burundi shows our children that they are special and loved is by celebrating their birthdays. If we do not know their actual date of birth, then we celebrate the day they joined the VOH family.

Many of our children also receive birthday gifts from their sponsors. Recently Chadia and Dorcas were thrilled with the new dresses they received! Special thanks to all of our sponsors for helping us make these birthday celebrations possible.

Chongwe: Scripture Union Club

Last week, the Scripture Union Club from a nearby Girl’s High School came to VOH Chongwe. The Scripture Union Club provides a way for students to share the gospel through drama and poetry.

Our kids had a great time interacting with the high school visitors and before leaving they blessed our children’s homes with groceries.

Kitwe: Dental Health Check-Ups

This week at VOH Kitwe a local private hospital called “Progress” came to our clinic to carry out dental health check ups for all of the children and youth living in our on-site homes. We are grateful to the hospital for their Cooperate Social Responsibility department who identified us as a ministry they want to support.

Thanks for all who help make this type of healthcare possible by providing funds for our medical clinic. We are so grateful for the support we receive from friends nearby and far away!

Mongu: Staff Sports Day

Staff sports day at VOH Mongu was a hit and brought us all closer together as a family. The staff had so much fun participating in beanbag races, sack races, running races, netball, and soccer.

After all of the games and races, we had a wonderful lunch together and had time to sit and connect with staff members we don’t often get to see. Missionaries, staff, and children alike had an absolute blast and already can’t wait for next year’s sports day!

Mwanza: Daily Chores

At VOH Mwanza everyone does their part to help with daily chores. Children learn how to take responsibility and help their Mama with chores at home like sweeping, taking out the garbage, carrying water, and mopping the floor. This prepares the children for the future some day when they will have their own place to take care of and it also instils family values as everyone has a part to play in keeping things running smoothly at home. We are always very impressed by how clean and tidy everyone keeps their homes!

Zimbabwe: Fire Safety Training

Every 6 months At VOH Zimbabwe our caregivers and children go through fire prevention training and drills so they are equipped in the event of a fire.

We make sure everyone knows exactly what to do in the event of a fire, from the youngest to the oldest. These regular drills are just one of the ways that we protect and care for our children.

Boxes of Love 2017 Feature

“In our family, the number of boxes that we have filled over the years is approximately 300. My past two trips I was able to recognise boxes of love that were packed by my family when giving them out in Zambia. I got to experience the joy that the boxes brought to all the children…” read more
