Back to School: This week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

Back to School!

IMG_0013The new school year has begun at VOH Burundi and Auntie Leontine is busy preparing and serving breakfast for the children. Almost 100 children are fed every day at VOH Bwiza Centre before they go to school. Having a nutritious meal to start the day keeps the kids healthy and they are also alert in class because they are not feeling hungry and weak from a lack of nutrition. Villages of Hope Africa is able to provide this meal through our feeding programs for only $4 per child per month and what a huge difference it makes in their lives!
If you would like to contribute to the feeding program, you can visit here for more details: https://vohafrica.com/donate/

IMG_0019It’s back to school at VOH Malawi and our grade 7 graduates have begun Form One (grade 8) at a nearby government high school. Attending classes together each day are 5 students from the children’s homes and 2 from the surrounding community. They have started the new school year very well and they are excited to have graduated from elementary school and to have entered this next phase of their lives!

Letters to Sponsors

IMG_0012The children at VOH Chongwe are writing letters to their ChildCare Plus sponsors this week. They love to write to their sponsors and are very excited when they receive a letter back. Kebby, is in Kindergarten and his teacher is helping him with some of the spelling. Each child has their own special things that they want to tell their sponsor and the moms and teachers are there to lend a hand to the younger children.

VOH Kenya Welcomes Joseph

IMG_0200VOH Kenya would like to welcome Joseph Odhiambo, the newest staff member at the Village! Joseph grew up in Obumba, the village where VOH Kenya is located.
John & Jane Okello, the Directors of VOH Kenya, helped Joseph with his school fees when he was in high school. In 2012, Joseph moved to Sudan to find work but he was unsuccessful. Last month the Okellos asked him if he would like to return to Obumba to be the new bookkeeper for the Village.
Joseph is very happy to be part of the Village of Hope family and is saving up to be able to return to college and further his education studying Human Resource Management!

VOH Kitwe Talent Show

IMG_0202Students of the VOH Kitwe School had a great time during last week’s talent show. The teachers and student leaders were the judges. One of the favourite musical groups was led by Twiza and his cousin Simon. The school administration and children all really enjoyed this special day and everyone encouraged one another during their performances. This annual event is a highlight of the school year!

Meet Emmanuel…

IMG_0199Little Emmanuel was found abandoned in the market on Saturday night. He was taken to the police and an officer then took him to the hospital. There is a Zambian couple who want to adopt him and the Social Welfare office has asked VOH Mongu to take care of him during the investigation and adoption process. We are happy to be able to provide Emmanuel with a safe and loving home and he was warmly welcomed by his Village of Hope family!

VOH Mwanza Welcomes the Kenyamanyaras

IMG_0201On September 20th all of the children and staff at VOH Mwanza welcomed new Village Directors, Julius and Jade Kenyamanyara, and their two boys Ezra and Gabriel. It was a joyful celebration including songs, dances, drums, and of course delicious food.
About 130 were present for the celebration and all joined together in a prayer of thanksgiving for their safe arrival and for God’s blessing and protection on their ministry. It was a wonderful beginning to an exciting new chapter in the life of VOH Mwanza!
