VOH Malawi 90% Pass Rate: This week at Villages of Hope

Check out what's been going on this week at Villages of Hope-Africa...

VOH Malawi 90% Pass Rate!

IMG_0192At VOH Malawi, classes started back this month on a very good note and all of the children are very excited to continue their studies. We also received results back from the government for the 9 students who wrote the Standard 8 National Exams. With great pleasure, we are happy to announce we had a 90% pass rate, with 8 of the 9 students passing the exams!
This is the second year that we’ve had pupils writing the national exams. Last year we had 3 students write and all 3 passed! We are very thankful for how hard the teachers work and also that the students work hard to make the most of the opportunity that has been given to them.

VOH Burundi Graduates

IMG_0205VOH Burundi is happy to share the story of another one of our young girls who has just graduated from high school. Josephine received her diploma last week and she had her friends there to celebrate with. VOH Burundi Director, Delson Niyimpaye, was also present for the celebrations.
Josephine lost both her mother and father at a young age and was cared for by her brother, but sadly he couldn’t afford to provide for all of her needs or to pay for school supplies and tuitions. Josephine has been under the care of VOH Burundi since we began In 2009 and we are very happy to celebrate this big moment in her life with her.
Josephine says, “I am more than thankful to VOH Burundi for its love and care for me and for the good environment they provided for me that made me able to achieve my high school graduation. I couldn’t do what I did without Village of Hope’s support. I pray that God blesses Village of Hope so that you may continue to support other children like me, and bring hope into their lives.”

VOH Chongwe Clinic Complete!

IMG_0190VOH Chongwe is happy to report construction of our new clinic is complete and the medical equipment and supplies have been purchased and are in place and ready to go! Next week we will have the final inspection from the ministry of health and then the clinic will be ready to begin serving the children and staff from VOH and also those from the surrounding community!

VOH Kenya Thanks Classrooms4Africa

IMG_0193VOH Kenya wants to thank Classrooms4Africa for the funding of two classrooms at Village of Hope Academy last year. The children have been happily learning and growing in their new classrooms for a little while now and are still so appreciative.
This last summer, we were happy to receive a plaque from Classrooms4Africa and secure it onto one of the outside walls of the latest room. We are so grateful for the people and organizations who choose to partner with us and help us in giving hope and a future to the children!

VOH Kitwe Welcomes Emmanuel + Siblings

IMG_0189

VOH Kitwe recently became home for 4 siblings: Emmanuel and his three sister Niza, Brendah, and Maureen. They were brought to the Village by a very young aunty because sadly, their mother is terminally ill and unable to care for her children.
We are happy to provide a home for all 4 children so they don’t have to be separated and it was a joy for Village Director, Everlyn Chitente to see them happily playing together and settling in as a family. The children have been warmly welcomed and are adjusting to their new home more and more each day as they receive love and care at the Village.

VOH Mongu 4th Children’s Home

IMG_0196As the sun rises to warm the day, the builders at VOH Mongu are hard at work laying the foundations for the new children’s home. For now it may just look like a few bricks and some sand, but it is the beginning of something much more beautiful: hope for children in Mongu who desperately need it. And so, it is with much excitement that we welcome the dust and the noise as we watch the beginning of our 4th house, a place many children will soon get to call home!

Fish and Cows at VOH Mwanza

IMG_0195The town of Mwanza is located in Tanzania right on Lake Victoria and as a result, sometimes we receive donations of fish at VOH Mwanza. When this happens it is always a welcomed sight at the Village.
Two weeks ago we received a donation so big it kept the staff and children busy for hours–the fish had to be cleaned and fried before being stored so everyone joined in to help.
Meanwhile, at the farm we recently welcomed a new calf. We have also begun to prepare the ground for growing maize, rice, beans and potatoes. VOH Mwanza is definitely a place of activity!

VOH Zimbabwe Athletics Update

IMG_0194At VOH Zimbabwe the under 13 girls volleyball team and the under 13 boys basketball team are busy preparing for the district wide competitions that will be happening soon. The children love to be involved in sports and we have some excellent athletes at the Village. Those not participating still gather around to cheer their friends on as they are preparing and everyone has lots of fun as the anticipation for the big event grows!
